Post-Holiday-Let-Down

You know how all the anxiety of Christmas shopping/preparing/wrapping/cooking/cleaning all resolves just about December 26th, then you're on a present-high for about another 2 days.
Then it really hits you.
The holiday let-down.
UGH. Depression at it's best.
Makes you kinda go, "remember when everyone was all happy and getting along, playing with all the new stuff, being good for Santa's sake?!"
What happened to that?
We're entering week 2 of Christmas vacation and the gloves are back on, the kids are back to their feisty ways and the party's over.
And, I'm pretty jealous of Santa, he gets all the glory and the kids pretty much bow before the fireplace when they think of him.
UGH.
This is one of those times when all your defenses are left vulnerable and waiting to come down with the next virus to hit the neighborhood.
You know you need to head to the store, but you bring your own Lysol wipees for the cart handle and to wipe down the ATM keypad.
You want to head to Bunco so badly so you bring one of those doctor's mask to wear and rubber gloves to protect you from the dice.
You hope to head out to a New Year's Eve dinner and champagne, but settle for Top Ramen and a Coke.
UGH.
I thought P0st-Vacation-Sadness-Disorder was tough. PHLD is the new PVSD.
Now click on the Mission Monday banner at the top of this post and enter to win some fab-o loot, it'll help with the let-down, promise!

You know, I never thought about taking wipes with me for an ATM keypad. Our grocery store has wipes at the door for the carts - I love it!
December 29, 2008 at 1:30 AM
Jen honey I think you need cranberry martinis with Vodka Mom and me :)
December 29, 2008 at 2:59 AM
I almost always get that disorder but this year for some reason it's eluding me. I'm grateful and I'm not even going to question it.
December 29, 2008 at 4:57 AM
And posts like this one are what make me love you!!!
Oh...I'm so glad I'm not alone in this.
I've missed catching up on all my bloggy friends! ;)
December 29, 2008 at 5:17 AM
I know...what the crap can I hold above my kids head for good behavior now?
December 29, 2008 at 5:20 AM
I am with ya, sista...
House is a disaster, so is the garage, and nobody's gonna fix it but me.
And I have a pile of "daddy gifts" that I have to find a way to creatively recycle...
but on a happier note...You're a Featured Blogger!!!! You Rock, Jen.
December 29, 2008 at 5:35 AM
Enjoy the downtime with a glass of wine after you duct tape the kids inside of a closet. Works to pick up my spirits every time (just kidding of course).
December 29, 2008 at 5:40 AM
Ugh. Yeah. Sorry. Hope it gets better. And REALY hope no viruses come knocking on our door. I'm with you on the wipes thing!!!!!!!
:)

You're funny even when you're depressed.
Have the champagne, it will help!
December 29, 2008 at 5:51 AM
Perhaps that is why my wife asks for bath stuff for Christmas— so that she can have her Calgon moment and escape.
Stay healthy!
December 29, 2008 at 5:53 AM
congrats on being a mission monday feature :-) we haven't hit let down yet, we have guests in town all next week!!!
December 29, 2008 at 6:15 AM
Oh, I know exactly what you mean! You are definitely not alone!! ;)
December 29, 2008 at 6:25 AM
Hope you get over the PHLD soon.
I've heard a good remedy is a spa day.
;)
December 29, 2008 at 6:27 AM
Happy new year
December 29, 2008 at 6:42 AM
I am SO ready for things to go back to normal. My husband is finally back to work...YAY! We had WAY too much togetherness. So here I sit in front of the computer while the kids play with the new toys they are not yet tired of sipping coffee. Good times.
December 29, 2008 at 6:49 AM
I know what you mean...instead I am focusing on enjoying the slowness of the days rather than the crazy hecticness!
December 29, 2008 at 7:01 AM
came on over from mission monday...
and i agree...santa gets way too much glory! i'm ok with it since i get to use him as an excuse for like 6 weeks before christmas for good behavior though! ha! nice blog. i'm gonna look around more!
December 29, 2008 at 7:04 AM
It definitely is a bit of a letdown. We had people staying at our house for 6 days straight - it's a little weird to have just the 3 of us now ...
December 29, 2008 at 8:28 AM
I know what you mean...it seems like you are so busy and then when Christmas finally gets here it is over so quickly and you are thrown back to real life...ugh!
December 29, 2008 at 8:55 AM
OK...I'm now putting clorox wipes in my purse...not touching anything!
December 29, 2008 at 9:25 AM
I feel ya! On top of all that, I also have PPTOBD: Post Pecan Tart Overload Blotation Disorder.
[urp]
It ain't pretty.

i suffer from this as well, i don't like to travel because of it. it happens whenever I go anywhere. i get very stressed leaving home and then sometimes cry for days after coming home. i am bipolar and have borderline personality disorder so i have learned to expect these "episodes". my husband is a very patient man!! ;) congrats on MM FB!!! Happy New Year!!
December 29, 2008 at 9:37 AM
I still have family in town and the kids are romping with their cousins so my PVLD has not kicked in yet - for that I am thankful. But it's coming....i can feel it.
Especially when my dude goes back to work next week UGH on that.
Hang in there. Happy New Year!
December 29, 2008 at 11:10 AM
It's not hitting me that badly this year. I could say it's because I've read The Secret, took up Hatha Yoga and learned to roll my own sushi, but that would not be true. Not only because I didn't do any of that stuff, but because I'm 100% sure it's my new meds. I can't drink wine or martinis because of an horrific twist of fate: I am allergic.. so I need the pills more than I even knew. Older daughter drives, and no one believes Santa comes down the chimney anymore... so post Christmas squirrley factor is way done from Christmas' Past. Happy new year! I really enjoy your blog.
December 29, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Yea, I really need an "elf" year round to watch over the kids and report back to someone.
I'm going out with the girls tonight. I need a break away from this house!!!
December 29, 2008 at 11:33 AM
I am ready to go back to WORK in order to get some rest! Love the post!
December 29, 2008 at 12:05 PM
I hate it when we can't use Santa as a weapon anymore...the whole "I'm calling Santa!" thing doesn't really work post December 25th and it sucks!
December 29, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Now to ground the kids from all their goodies because they are brats!!!!! Hurry and go back to school!!!!!!!!!
December 29, 2008 at 12:58 PM
I think the post-holiday let-down affects us all.
December 29, 2008 at 1:52 PM
I am still feeling pretty GOOD because I am on vacation...but next Monday when I have to go to work...I will be in a foul, sour mood!
December 29, 2008 at 2:13 PM
Gloves and a mask at Bunco, eh? That ought to be interesting.
Our Monterey trip is back on, but we're going to do cheap take out dinner for the room. lol Anything to enjoy just being there!
December 29, 2008 at 2:15 PM
I'm just starting to come down off my Christmas high.... the drive home from my parents' tomorrow will be murder! Meh.
December 29, 2008 at 3:28 PM
i kinda get down after Christmas too! it's like a high and then you have to hit that low!!
then i think that it's bitter sweat!
December 29, 2008 at 3:42 PM
I wanted to say to Brittany, that I read a blog recently about someone's mother who said all the little birdies that hang out on the telephone wires are 'Santa's Helpers' and they report to Santa all year round. I thought it was a pretty good idea.
I'm not a mom, so I get all of the fun of christmas without the Post-Christmas Let Down.
I'd offer you some yummy coffee cake and tea as a condolance, but that would probably ... eventually just make you feel worse. Buck up though, Spring is just around the corner!!!
December 29, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Over from MM - can totally feel your pain. I'm chagrined to say that when dear hubby headed back to work today, I wasn't all that sad.
Sometimes juggling the kids is a little easier without someone else throwing a ball at me, you know?
Hope the funk passes quickly!!
December 29, 2008 at 5:37 PM
"And Mom And Dad Can Hardly Wait For School To Start Again!" Oh brother!!! How true.
And now my 9 yrs. old niece is staying with us because of her father's work schedule and I'm about ready to scream!
...whew...
...deep breath...
Alright. A bit better now.
December 29, 2008 at 6:13 PM
gosh glad I am not the only one that feels that way. We are all sick on top of it. We use to go to Disney the day after Xmas to chase the blues away, the wine isn't working either. Great post Jen.
December 29, 2008 at 6:26 PM
Sorry that you are suffering from PHLD. I am suffering from the mess. It is so bad I don't even know where to start. I get one thing done and Hunter manages to destroy another room with all his Christmas loot.
Hope the New Year and Ramen bring you out of depression! Have a Happy and safe one!
p.s. I love your stocking cap!!!
December 29, 2008 at 6:26 PM
I hate taking my decorations down, that makes me so depressed. SO I wait till after the new year to do it.
I'm fixing to post something that might make you smile! :)
December 29, 2008 at 6:48 PM
Here I thought it was just me who goes through the after holiday depression. I have a post in progress about how I've been feeling. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. We will get through it!! Hang in there.
December 29, 2008 at 8:08 PM
I'm here from Mission: Monday and I'm glad I clicked over.
The new year cures PVSD, doesn't it? It's all about the clean slate. It won't cure viruses though, so you had better keep those wipes ready...
December 29, 2008 at 8:18 PM
Yep, parties over. Colds are here. I know the drill. We'll get through it, us moms always do. Ummmm.... happy new year!
December 29, 2008 at 9:00 PM
someone else posted about this - I am still surprised - I guess I have never experienced this!! I am SO HAPPY it is all over!!!!!!!
December 29, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Be strong! It'll all feel like normal again real soon. (And by "soon" I mean "when school starts!")
December 30, 2008 at 12:09 AM
Yea, don't ya just love this germ spreading season?
Time to pick yourself up and start to prepare for the new year!!
Positive thoughts! Positive thoughts!
December 30, 2008 at 3:51 AM
I want to live in bubble.. a pristine, clear, virus and germ free bubble!!
January 4, 2009 at 8:47 AM
Totally agree with your view on PHLD.
Happy 2009!
