The One Where I Cried at the End
Saturday afternoon was family day. And, what's family day without a little crying from one child who doesn't want to do the chosen activity?
This time around it was My Boy making a ruckus.
We decided on a whim to go to see High School Musical 3.
We were up town, dropping off recycling to make a whopping $18 on our cans/bottle/plastic. We cruised by the theater and were a half hour away from the next showing. Cool.
Not cool for my son. "I want to stay home, I don't want to see HSM3!" Whine.Cry.Anger.
What?? Going to the movies is not a dream of any 7 year old. I thought he'd go regardless of what we saw just for a Sprite and popcorn.
His sister teased him relentlessly and that just pissed him off. Ready to punch her, I said, "remember when you saw Clone Wars? DQ didn't want to see that either!"
"But she didn't see it!! She stayed home with you!" Oops, right, she did. I didn't want to see it either.
Thankfully Hubby chimed in (after a few teases), "well mom and I both want to see it so you have to come."
Arms crossed and all, he finally stopped fussing. I mean, he's seen the other two movies, loves "I Don't Dance" by Corbin Bleu, what's the problem?!
The movie was good. You know, as far as tween movies are. I made the gagging expression to hubby for every slow/cheesy Troy and Gabriella song, but boogied with K on all the fast numbers.
Then at the end, I did it. I couldn't believe it, but when they graduated, I cried!
What a sap I am.
I got over it quickly and as the credits rolled and the music played, the kids and I all danced in the aisles as the other movie-goers headed out.
"Well?" I asked My Boy. He smiled and gave me a thumbs up! I knew it. It's something about movie popcorn I think. It has powers to make any sucky movie, cool.

Popcorn and soda go a very long way. They can work wonders. My husband always cries at the end of kids movies. I'll have to take him to see if he does this time.

Because ours are so small I always end up being the one at home with someone. Ican't wait until they are all old enough for movies. It will be sooooo cool!

My youngest is dying to see HSM3. If you sat through it them maybe I can too.
November 4, 2008 at 4:34 AM
I have to chuckle that you cried at the end of HSM3. I've not seen it yet, but "back in the day," I stayed home from a night of partying to watch Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski get married on the series finale of Saved by the Bell.
And I cried.
Like a little girl.
;)

Being the mom of 2 boys has somehow left me out of the whole HSM phenomenon. If it is a two-hankie affair, though, maybe I better go back and check things out...I LOVE a gripping drama flick! ;-)

We saw HSM3 this past weekend also except my 7 year old wanted to see it. Love how he decided after the fact that he actually like it! Don't you just love their minds?
November 4, 2008 at 5:38 AM
I saw it last night with my 21 year old theater geek of a son. He loved it, and I gotta admit, my eyes got a little bit misty there at the end, too.
November 4, 2008 at 5:46 AM
I love that!!! Trev did the same thing when I made him watch Grease he pouted and then 30 minutes later, I saw his foot a-tappin'. We do know better. Right?!
November 4, 2008 at 5:48 AM
YAY for HSM3! I want to see it too! Maybe this weekend we'll take the kids to see the early show so we arent paying $10 a person.
btw, crying is ok...i cry too!

I cry at all movies. I haven't seen any of these movies...I might just have to rent them.
November 4, 2008 at 6:35 AM
Glad he sat through it for you and likes it. Must have been the popcorn and sugary beverage.
November 4, 2008 at 6:46 AM
blech.. I just can't stand HSM.. I know I have a daughter and I am suppossed to love it.. but yuck. Thankfully, she doesn't like it either!
I'm glad you had fun though and happy you're little guy perked up! You're right, movie theater popcorn can make anything better.
November 4, 2008 at 6:51 AM
You are such a sap! I love that you cried at a Tween Movie. I have yet to see any of the HSM movies... but I have heard they are pretty good
November 4, 2008 at 7:07 AM
LOL I love me some sprite and popcorn too.
And i think i have the only 5 year old who DOESN'T want to go to the show. I think because he can't sit his little butt still for that long. LOL
November 4, 2008 at 7:10 AM
I too got teary eyed at the end as well! I have to admit I am sad they are over! I still rock out to the music with DD! I also wasn't impressed by the lovey doveyness... the other 2 were better!
November 4, 2008 at 7:14 AM
That is funny, yeah once the movie starts you get sucked in.
November 4, 2008 at 7:23 AM
Us Mom's should definitely come with a rewind button in order to get do overs.
November 4, 2008 at 7:35 AM
I'm a puss, too! I got a little teared up at HSM3 as well!
November 4, 2008 at 7:47 AM
My 5 year old just saw HSM3 and loved it. But, in truth, she loved the popcorn and lemonade more! Amazing how a little bribing goes a long way! LOL
November 4, 2008 at 8:20 AM
Had to be the popcorn! LOL
November 4, 2008 at 8:27 AM
I still got to take the kids to see it. What a sap you are!! LOL My hubby usually does the crying at movies, I should make him come just so I can make fun of him for crying at HSM3 LOL
November 4, 2008 at 8:57 AM
Oh no - my girls and hubby will never let me live it down if I cry!!! I better not watch it!!!
November 4, 2008 at 9:25 AM
I agree, there IS something about movie popcorn! (Sometimes it's the only reason I want to go to a movie.)
November 4, 2008 at 9:33 AM
I cry at every movie, so it would just be par for course.... Wait, scratch that: I did NOT cry at Clone Wars. And you were smart to skip it, it stank to the high heavens.
November 4, 2008 at 10:02 AM
I haven't seen it, but that's a cute story. Cute enough for me to go see the movie. Hey, I love popcorn too :-)
November 4, 2008 at 10:26 AM

First time I happened on your blog... very nice! I have 4 boys myself so I know what you are talking about... we get them to do LOTS of things based purely on food motivation alone. LOL. :-) Thanks for posting!
November 4, 2008 at 11:37 AM

November 4, 2008 at 4:48 PM
Seems to be the way it always goes. Someone, no matter what or where, needs to have a melt down. My 8 year old doens't like HSM either :(
November 4, 2008 at 5:20 PM
Love this post! You are SO cute!
November 4, 2008 at 5:26 PM
i love to think of you and k dancing in the aisles. what a fun family memory!!
November 4, 2008 at 5:28 PM
I thought HSM3 was a pretty good movie! How can you not like watching a movie where characters spontaneously break out into song and dance?
And... La Vie En Rose is playing! This was my husband & mine's wedding song!
November 4, 2008 at 6:20 PM
I haven't seen ANY of the HSM movies! I feel so left out!
November 4, 2008 at 7:02 PM
I cry at commercials - I can't imagine what I will be like when I finally make it out to movies :)

November 4, 2008 at 9:45 PM
We haven't seen it yet, but I can TOTALLY see myself crying at the graduation scene, too! I'll join the big sap club w/ ya.
November 5, 2008 at 12:45 AM
Haha @ movie popcorn power. Its always the 400 ga jug of icy that does it for Miss J and that does me in since I end up having to take her to pee and miss the good parts.
November 8, 2008 at 10:34 AM
I'm such a cheeseball that I cry at most movies too! My girls just know that mommy cries not only when she's sad, but when she's happy too!
