Vampires? Twilight? Me?
Over the weekend I attended a relaxing retreat. It's the one I've been going to annually for over 5 years now.
It's for scrapbookers.
To scrapbook.
My friend Jen, who drove 3 of us over, told me the night before she was bringing the Twilight book for me.
Um...Wha? I'm going cropping, why would I need that crazy distraction?!
Well probably because she, like many others, thought it was INSANE I hadn't read it.
Okay, whatevs. Knock yourself out. I won't touch it.
I won't.
Will not.
Can not.
You can't make me.
Throughout the weekend it sat on my table next to my paper cutter and scrapbook.
I think it mocked me.
Dared me.
Damn you, don't you dare me, I'm weak!
Hitting a scrapper's wall, if you will, I grabbed the damn book and took off to my room and thought....I'll read the first chapter, it it sucks I'm out.
The 'ol College Try.
Who was this Edward character, and why was he so great.
Vampires, pffff, that's so silly.
I won't be that almost-36-year-old mom of 3 wearing a jersey with CULLEN on the back.
I won't.
..............flash forward 12 hours..............
366 pages in.
I.can't.put.it.down.
Someone hold me!!
January 19, 2009 at 1:34 AM
That is just too funny! Sucked in by the book. Bwahahahahah.
January 19, 2009 at 1:38 AM
You may have been the last person on the face of the earth to finally do it! Good Job giving into the peer pressure! But wasn't it worth it?
January 19, 2009 at 3:20 AM
Wow, really THAT good. My almost 12 year old has no interest in it... would this 50something look funny reading it? Well, not that ANYONE would actually see me reading it. Maybe this will be the book to bring me out of my reading drought.... I will be off to pick up a copy today I think!
January 19, 2009 at 4:59 AM
I think I deleted instead of posting my comment...lol.
I have not read this book...and am not interested...lol...so I guess that makes me the last over 30 woman in blogland that hasn't caught the bug.
January 19, 2009 at 5:06 AM
Welcome to the "Mommy's who heart Twilight" club..haha! I was almost ashamed when I first started the series, but 3 weeks later I had read the entire series and was waiting for the movie.
January 19, 2009 at 5:47 AM
So glad you got biten!
It just gets better.
The book, not the addiction.
The addiction...well it goes on forever.
And when the addiction becomes an obsession...then you will just join the rest of us!
January 19, 2009 at 5:49 AM
Oh, I so know. I don't write blogs about it or anything, but it is GOOD. However, I can't seem to get past pp 100 in the second one. It just doesn't hold a candle to the first.
January 19, 2009 at 5:51 AM
Ha! I haven't read it yet, either. I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to either. I'm guessing you like it!? lol Enjoy!
January 19, 2009 at 6:02 AM
Welcome to the dark side :) And to think that you're just scratching the surface...there's THREE MORE BOOKS!!! :) Enjoy your journey!
January 19, 2009 at 6:03 AM
Edward has true power...once he gets his fangs in you, no matter your age, he DOES.NOT.LET.GO!
January 19, 2009 at 6:13 AM
Sounds like a great book. I haven't read it either but thinking I might need too!
January 19, 2009 at 6:13 AM
They are GREAT Books!!!
Her other book The Host is also really good :)
Though I will warn you, you will feel that way about all 4 in the Twilight series...can't put them down the whole way through :)
Oh and I am 37, haven't bought the jersey yet but insisted of having all the book in hardback (that is a sign of maturity right? LOL)
January 19, 2009 at 6:14 AM
Welcome to (female) humanity.
You will be fine. After you get through the next 3 books. Is your freezer stocked? Does your husband know how to cook? Are you up-to-date in your sleep deprivation training?
Shall we expect a break in blogging from you? Hopefully your children will not notice a big hole in the family history photo log (scrapbooks) when they are older.

January 19, 2009 at 6:14 AM
I KNOW I just finished Twilight! Now on to New Moon.....I am a 32 year old mom with 2 children obsessed over Edward and Bella......
January 19, 2009 at 6:39 AM
Ah, Jen...
I'm retreating to the seaside for a few weeks tomorrow, and taking some good reading with me...I'll still be posting between Ayurvedic treatments, massages, beach walks, and exploring, so come on by :)
January 19, 2009 at 7:03 AM
I thought the same thing. And then....I bought the book. I read it in just a few days and now I am looking for New Moon. Of course I have to go to a real bookstore to find it.
Hope you had a nice relaxing weekend. Did you get any scrapping done after picking up Twilight?
January 19, 2009 at 7:15 AM
Ah HAHAHAHA. I KNEW you would get sucked in. Welcome to the coven. Muhahahaha
And wait til you read the next 3 books. You'll lose all track of time and will have Edward on the brain 24/7. Oh no wait, that's just me. LOL
January 19, 2009 at 7:29 AM
Muahaha! Welcome to the dark side. We have candy. :D
January 19, 2009 at 7:45 AM
I knew it was only a matter of time. Glad you caved. Welcome to the cult, oops I meant club.
January 19, 2009 at 7:46 AM
MUAHAHAHA!!!!! You are now one of us!!!! Someday we'll have the nerve to wear Team Edward shirts and not care that 14 year olds think we're LAME :) It's the same way with so many of us. We refuse to read it, and when we finally give in, it's a full blown addiction. Hurry up and get New Moon! :)
Signed, Your Fellow Insane Twilight Mom
January 19, 2009 at 7:53 AM
So sorry you've been bitten.
January 19, 2009 at 7:57 AM
hehe glad you loved it.. I too said I would not could not read that book.. but then just like Green Eggs and Ham.. I tried it and loved it! Sorry think I read that story one to many times this weekend ;-)
January 19, 2009 at 8:04 AM
Your post makes me think I just may give in and read it. . . but I'd still be the last person on earth who didn't see The Titanic!
January 19, 2009 at 8:17 AM
I did the same thing, it's pointless to try and resist it.
January 19, 2009 at 8:18 AM
I'm a Twilight Groupie too!
Welcome aboard Jen! It's a great ride and one you won't regret until you realize that you, too, WANT to be a vampire more than ANYTHING!!
LOL
January 19, 2009 at 8:21 AM
You're one of us now! Congratulations!
January 19, 2009 at 8:23 AM
you were sucked into the darkside! Now I'm lonely over here!
January 19, 2009 at 8:25 AM
I guess I should read this, eh? My daughter has read the entire series, and she liked it.
I still have to read Harry Potter as well...that's right.
January 19, 2009 at 8:25 AM
I started it last night. I am only 50 pages in but it seems really good and intriguing so far.
January 19, 2009 at 8:32 AM
Welcome to the club ;)
January 19, 2009 at 8:40 AM
Whoa, you scared me for a minute. I thought you meant you did 366 SCRAPBOOK pages!!! LOL!!! Then I saw "I cant put it down" and realized what you meant!!! LOL!! (If it makes you feel better, I haven't read it!!!) :)
I am going to a 9am-9pm crop this Saturday. I would LOVE to go to an all weekend retreat!! Heaven!!! :)
January 19, 2009 at 8:41 AM
This is EXACTLY what I've been trying to avoid! I have the book sitting on my bookshelf. I've been putting off reading it because I KNOW I'm going to get sucked in. Then I'll have to read the next one. Then the next one. *sigh* I'm a goner. Let's start a support group. I'll bring the wine.
January 19, 2009 at 8:44 AM
Oh I was sucked in as well. I still have the last 2 to read. I think I am more indifferent so far, but I will finish the series.
I still think Harry Potter books are better.
January 19, 2009 at 8:46 AM
I am right there with you. I was not going to read something so popular, but I cannot get enough. I just ordered books three and four and cannot wait for them to get here!
January 19, 2009 at 8:53 AM
You have finally crossed over to the dark side...mwwwahhhahaha!
January 19, 2009 at 8:57 AM
LOL I havent gotten in to the whole Twilight thing yet...probably cause I barely have time to read directions to make mac n cheese : )
I love a good book!
January 19, 2009 at 9:22 AM
Of course, Harry Potter is better! But Edward is soooooo much hotter than Professor Dumbledor....enjoy your Twilight!
January 19, 2009 at 9:34 AM
I know, it starts slowly and then sucks you in...
January 19, 2009 at 9:41 AM
There needs to be a large warning label on the front of the book that lets you know it will be hours before you can put it down once you start reading! Keep reading, the books only get better!
January 19, 2009 at 10:14 AM
i so hear you, it totally sucks you in! i am almost done with the third book right now!
January 19, 2009 at 10:16 AM
I'll be over with a bottle of wine and New Moon (the next book in the series) right away!!!
January 19, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Oh how I wish I could get sucked into the book like you. I have tried reading it but since I need complete quiet it hasnt happened yet. I am hoping for the time to get sucked in. For now I slowly ready when I get the chance and sadly have yet to be anywhere close to sucked in by the book but I am sure one of these days I will be.
January 19, 2009 at 10:58 AM
You.are.so.weak!!! I refuse to read the book because I have a childish fear of vampires....I can hear you laughing at me!
January 19, 2009 at 11:43 AM
OMG I cought the same ailment and was hooked. Damn all those pushers!!! But I am so glad they made me.
January 19, 2009 at 12:07 PM
LOL!! You think it's bad now, wait until you read Breaking Dawn, go searching the internet for a "fix" and realize that Stephenie Meyer may NEVER FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN! (And then you'll go shopping at Hot Topic.) (It's scary, but there are plenty of us here who will hold your hand as you go through withdrawal.)
January 19, 2009 at 1:01 PM
Your scrapbooking weekend sounds wonderful! I felt the same way about Twilight and then I finally gave in and now I am almost done with book # 3...they are good aren't they?
January 19, 2009 at 1:36 PM
I guess I will have to read it at the beach this summer.
January 19, 2009 at 1:38 PM
Another one bites the dust! LOL! I love me some Twilight!
January 19, 2009 at 1:50 PM
I've seen the movie (3x) but STILL haven't read the books. I know, shoot me. I got them from the library but didn't have time to read them...now they're on request/hold by about 200 other people ahead of me again ;)
I can't wait though.
And this is SO deja vu-I TOTALLY remember you posting about your girl's scrapping retreat LAST YEAR! Dude. Has it been over a year already?!?!
January 19, 2009 at 1:56 PM
So cute! I just read the whole series over the Christmas break. DH bought me the first two books for Christmas and I planned to wait awhile to get #3 and #4. Um yeah, three days later I made him go buy them for me - I *HAD* to finish it all - I had to know, lol!! Enjoy the rest of the series!
January 19, 2009 at 2:18 PM
I know- I read it in a 2 days. I totally ignored everything and just read. You'll be OK oafter you finish the rest of the books and see the movie a few times.
January 19, 2009 at 2:34 PM
Hitting the scrapper's wall...sounds so sad. Your pages would probably be all manilla-colored background with photos glued on, right?
January 19, 2009 at 2:37 PM
I broke down and read Twilight.
I tried to get through the second one, but Twilight was enough for me. (Probably because of all the hoopla over the movie. I felt silly every time one of my daughters friends saw my copy and said "YOU like Twilight?" I don't need to be mocked by 11 year olds, thankyouverymuch :-> )
January 19, 2009 at 2:46 PM
LOL I told you so!!!
January 19, 2009 at 3:12 PM
But reading a book means you're not reading blogs, right? Tough choice! Maybe I'll pick it up this summer, when i'm not so "busy".... :)
P.S. In case I forgot to tell you, I left a FABULOUS award for you on Sunday.
January 19, 2009 at 3:31 PM
You'll be OK... maybe not soon, but eventually... I'm holding down the Non-Twilight fort for you, you can still return if you want to, I won't judge...
And, I have an award for you over at Aria'z Ink... http://ariazink.blogspot.com Congrats Lady!
January 19, 2009 at 3:36 PM
LOL! Another one bitten! Isn't it a fun read?!?! I haven't had that much fun reading a series in well, forever!
Oh, and I own a Twilight Mom t-shirt, and I'm 40! LOL!
Enjoy the whole series!
January 19, 2009 at 3:44 PM
I thought for SURE I would read this book and be able to tell everyone how stupid it was...that they were all NUTS.
Well, less than two weeks later I had already read all four books! It was tough going to work night after night on 2-3 hours sleep!
I LOVE Edward!
January 19, 2009 at 3:57 PM
I was the SAME way! And, I totally just finished the last book. Now I don't know what to do with myself.
January 19, 2009 at 4:04 PM
lmao *holding you* there, there...you'll be o.k. now have you seen the movie? cos if you haven't, that's your next step. rob pattinson will make you fall even more in love with edward. (i don't like bella..yuck) but ohmyedward, the cullens are BEAUTIFUL in the movie. *sigh* p.s. are ya gonna get like happyhour sue now? lol
January 19, 2009 at 5:11 PM
I obviously need to read this book. I'm embarrassed to even write down that I have not read it. Don't judge me. K?
January 19, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Before I read the book I didn't get what the big deal about it was. I thought it sounded not very interesting. I got the book for Christmas and ended up reading it in one day. Now I want the others.
January 19, 2009 at 6:48 PM
Glad to hear that the vampires, I mean your friends got you addicted to the books. Happy reading the rest of the series!
January 19, 2009 at 10:58 PM
I picked up a copy this summer and within a week had read the entire series...
My excuse for reading the first one was that I wanted to know what all the hoopla was about (many of my students and teen clients are totally into the series)...my excuse for the other 3 books: I was "unconditionally and irrevocably" hooked!
January 19, 2009 at 11:01 PM
One more thing...
Team Jacob rocks! (and I am so okay with being a 32 year old mom who says so)
January 20, 2009 at 6:53 AM
ROFL~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are all pretty good. But the movie sucks. Save your $14.95 that it costs and just stab a knife in your eye. Same thing.
trisha
January 20, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Bwahahaha. Sucker. (I did a two day marathon, with no sleep, to get through all of them.)
January 20, 2009 at 9:03 AM
MUAHAHA... welcome to the dark side. We have Edward =)
January 20, 2009 at 1:25 PM
Welcome to the club... Make sure you have the next bbok before you finish this one you you will go crazy.
January 20, 2009 at 2:26 PM
Oh no... another one bites the dust! Well, did you see my recent post of me and the Edward cutout? Yeah... I hope it doesn't come to that for you :P
January 20, 2009 at 6:40 PM
It happened to me too. Then the second book....I'll be so curious to see what you think
January 20, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Um, Hi...I am the future Mrs. Edward Cullen. Please do not lust after my man,K? Thanks
My 14 year old got me hooked. Loved the book, but I didn't totally fall in love with Edward until the movie.
January 21, 2009 at 1:10 PM
I'm calling it "The Twilight Zone." We lost you and never got you back! ;) I think I'm going to break down and buy it because NOBODY will lend it to me. And I'm fine with that. Whatever. No problem. I have money to burn anyway.
Can't wait to see what the zone is like!
January 23, 2009 at 8:22 PM
For real, girl.....now, go watch the MOVIE!!! :)
