Vampires? Twilight? Me?

Over the weekend I attended a relaxing retreat.

It's the one I've been going to annually for over 5 years now.

It's for scrapbookers.

To scrapbook.

My friend Jen, who drove 3 of us over, told me the night before she was bringing the Twilight book for me.

Um...Wha? I'm going cropping, why would I need that crazy distraction?!

Well probably because she, like many others, thought it was INSANE I hadn't read it.

Okay, whatevs. Knock yourself out. I won't touch it.

I won't.

Will not.

Can not.

You can't make me.

Throughout the weekend it sat on my table next to my paper cutter and scrapbook.

I think it mocked me.

Dared me.

Damn you, don't you dare me, I'm weak!

Hitting a scrapper's wall, if you will, I grabbed the damn book and took off to my room and thought....I'll read the first chapter, it it sucks I'm out.

The 'ol College Try.

Who was this Edward character, and why was he so great.

Vampires, pffff, that's so silly.

I won't be that almost-36-year-old mom of 3 wearing a jersey with CULLEN on the back.

I won't.

..............flash forward 12 hours..............

366 pages in.

I.can't.put.it.down.

Someone hold me!!

You may have been the last person on the face of the earth to finally do it! Good Job giving into the peer pressure! But wasn't it worth it?

  3. Martha said...

Wow, really THAT good. My almost 12 year old has no interest in it... would this 50something look funny reading it? Well, not that ANYONE would actually see me reading it. Maybe this will be the book to bring me out of my reading drought.... I will be off to pick up a copy today I think!

I think I deleted instead of posting my comment...lol.

I have not read this book...and am not interested...lol...so I guess that makes me the last over 30 woman in blogland that hasn't caught the bug.

Welcome to the "Mommy's who heart Twilight" club..haha! I was almost ashamed when I first started the series, but 3 weeks later I had read the entire series and was waiting for the movie.

    The book, not the addiction.
The addiction...well it goes on forever.

Oh, I so know. I don't write blogs about it or anything, but it is GOOD. However, I can't seem to get past pp 100 in the second one. It just doesn't hold a candle to the first.

  8. A Christian Mom said...

Ha! I haven't read it yet, either. I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to either. I'm guessing you like it!? lol Enjoy!

    They are GREAT Books!!!

Her other book The Host is also really good :)

Though I will warn you, you will feel that way about all 4 in the Twilight series...can't put them down the whole way through :)

Oh and I am 37, haven't bought the jersey yet but insisted of having all the book in hardback (that is a sign of maturity right? LOL)

    Welcome to (female) humanity.

You will be fine. After you get through the next 3 books. Is your freezer stocked? Does your husband know how to cook? Are you up-to-date in your sleep deprivation training?

Shall we expect a break in blogging from you? Hopefully your children will not notice a big hole in the family history photo log (scrapbooks) when they are older.

I thought the same thing. And then....I bought the book. I read it in just a few days and now I am looking for New Moon. Of course I have to go to a real bookstore to find it.

Hope you had a nice relaxing weekend. Did you get any scrapping done after picking up Twilight?

  17. Tiffany said...

Ah HAHAHAHA. I KNEW you would get sucked in. Welcome to the coven. Muhahahaha

And wait til you read the next 3 books. You'll lose all track of time and will have Edward on the brain 24/7. Oh no wait, that's just me. LOL

MUAHAHAHA!!!!! You are now one of us!!!! Someday we'll have the nerve to wear Team Edward shirts and not care that 14 year olds think we're LAME :) It's the same way with so many of us. We refuse to read it, and when we finally give in, it's a full blown addiction. Hurry up and get New Moon! :)

I am going to a 9am-9pm crop this Saturday. I would LOVE to go to an all weekend retreat!! Heaven!!! :)

This is EXACTLY what I've been trying to avoid! I have the book sitting on my bookshelf. I've been putting off reading it because I KNOW I'm going to get sucked in. Then I'll have to read the next one. Then the next one. *sigh* I'm a goner. Let's start a support group. I'll bring the wine.

  33. Allison said...

Oh I was sucked in as well. I still have the last 2 to read. I think I am more indifferent so far, but I will finish the series.

I still think Harry Potter books are better.

  34. Jen said...

I am right there with you. I was not going to read something so popular, but I cannot get enough. I just ordered books three and four and cannot wait for them to get here!

  36. Sarah's Blogtastic Adventures said...

LOL I havent gotten in to the whole Twilight thing yet...probably cause I barely have time to read directions to make mac n cheese : )

    I love a good book!

  37. April said...

Of course, Harry Potter is better! But Edward is soooooo much hotter than Professor Dumbledor....enjoy your Twilight!

  38. Linda S said...

I know, it starts slowly and then sucks you in...

  39. Wendy said...

There needs to be a large warning label on the front of the book that lets you know it will be hours before you can put it down once you start reading! Keep reading, the books only get better!

  40. Clare said...

i so hear you, it totally sucks you in! i am almost done with the third book right now!

  41. McMommy said...

I'll be over with a bottle of wine and New Moon (the next book in the series) right away!!!

  42. Carri said...

Oh how I wish I could get sucked into the book like you. I have tried reading it but since I need complete quiet it hasnt happened yet. I am hoping for the time to get sucked in. For now I slowly ready when I get the chance and sadly have yet to be anywhere close to sucked in by the book but I am sure one of these days I will be.

  43. Dennis and Leslie said...

You.are.so.weak!!! I refuse to read the book because I have a childish fear of vampires....I can hear you laughing at me!

  44. jill jill bo bill said...

OMG I cought the same ailment and was hooked. Damn all those pushers!!! But I am so glad they made me.

  45. Leigh said...

LOL!! You think it's bad now, wait until you read Breaking Dawn, go searching the internet for a "fix" and realize that Stephenie Meyer may NEVER FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN! (And then you'll go shopping at Hot Topic.) (It's scary, but there are plenty of us here who will hold your hand as you go through withdrawal.)

  46. Danielle (Life with the Hewitt Family) said...

Your scrapbooking weekend sounds wonderful! I felt the same way about Twilight and then I finally gave in and now I am almost done with book # 3...they are good aren't they?

  47. Unknown said...

I guess I will have to read it at the beach this summer.

  48. Jenni said...

Another one bites the dust! LOL! I love me some Twilight!

  49. flickrlovr said...

I've seen the movie (3x) but STILL haven't read the books. I know, shoot me. I got them from the library but didn't have time to read them...now they're on request/hold by about 200 other people ahead of me again ;)

    I can't wait though.

And this is SO deja vu-I TOTALLY remember you posting about your girl's scrapping retreat LAST YEAR! Dude. Has it been over a year already?!?!

  50. Laurie said...

So cute! I just read the whole series over the Christmas break. DH bought me the first two books for Christmas and I planned to wait awhile to get #3 and #4. Um yeah, three days later I made him go buy them for me - I *HAD* to finish it all - I had to know, lol!! Enjoy the rest of the series!

  51. Mariah said...

I know- I read it in a 2 days. I totally ignored everything and just read. You'll be OK oafter you finish the rest of the books and see the movie a few times.

  52. beth said...

Hitting the scrapper's wall...sounds so sad. Your pages would probably be all manilla-colored background with photos glued on, right?

  53. Ann Harrison said...

I broke down and read Twilight.
I tried to get through the second one, but Twilight was enough for me. (Probably because of all the hoopla over the movie. I felt silly every time one of my daughters friends saw my copy and said "YOU like Twilight?" I don't need to be mocked by 11 year olds, thankyouverymuch :-> )

  54. Jamey said...

    LOL I told you so!!!

  55. Mrs4444 said...

But reading a book means you're not reading blogs, right? Tough choice! Maybe I'll pick it up this summer, when i'm not so "busy".... :)

P.S. In case I forgot to tell you, I left a FABULOUS award for you on Sunday.

  56. Aria said...

You'll be OK... maybe not soon, but eventually... I'm holding down the Non-Twilight fort for you, you can still return if you want to, I won't judge...
And, I have an award for you over at Aria'z Ink... http://ariazink.blogspot.com Congrats Lady!

  57. Dawn said...

LOL! Another one bitten! Isn't it a fun read?!?! I haven't had that much fun reading a series in well, forever!

    Oh, and I own a Twilight Mom t-shirt, and I'm 40! LOL!

    Enjoy the whole series!

  58. VisibleSoulPhotography said...

I thought for SURE I would read this book and be able to tell everyone how stupid it was...that they were all NUTS.

Well, less than two weeks later I had already read all four books! It was tough going to work night after night on 2-3 hours sleep!

    I LOVE Edward!

  59. Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? said...

I was the SAME way! And, I totally just finished the last book. Now I don't know what to do with myself.

  60. Pam said...

  61. Cathy said...

I obviously need to read this book. I'm embarrassed to even write down that I have not read it. Don't judge me. K?

  62. Anonymous said...

Before I read the book I didn't get what the big deal about it was. I thought it sounded not very interesting. I got the book for Christmas and ended up reading it in one day. Now I want the others.

  63. Beth @ TheAngelForever said...

Glad to hear that the vampires, I mean your friends got you addicted to the books. Happy reading the rest of the series!

  64. Roxane said...

I picked up a copy this summer and within a week had read the entire series...

My excuse for reading the first one was that I wanted to know what all the hoopla was about (many of my students and teen clients are totally into the series)...my excuse for the other 3 books: I was "unconditionally and irrevocably" hooked!

  65. Roxane said...

    One more thing...

Team Jacob rocks! (and I am so okay with being a 32 year old mom who says so)

  66. Haasiegirl said...

    ROFL~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are all pretty good. But the movie sucks. Save your $14.95 that it costs and just stab a knife in your eye. Same thing.

I'm calling it "The Twilight Zone." We lost you and never got you back! ;) I think I'm going to break down and buy it because NOBODY will lend it to me. And I'm fine with that. Whatever. No problem. I have money to burn anyway.
Can't wait to see what the zone is like!
