I Need a Cow, a Pig, and a Chicken
Oh my goodness.I have growing kids on my hands.
They are eating us out of house and home.
Summertime means so much more than "I'm bored."
It means when they're bored and when mommy says "find something to do," they head to the kitchen.
They think it's a 24 hour diner.
I've said "kitchen's closed" about 690 times since summer vacation started.
With all the cheese, milk, eggs, bacon, ground beef, tritip, and cold cuts, we seriously need to have livestock in our backyard.
Well, that and a butcher.

Our 14 year old son must be having another growth spurt. Sunday night I made chicken jambalaya and he had 3 big portions. Then Monday I caught him eating the leftover stroganoff from Saturday AND leftover chicken jambalaya. I don't even want to say how much mashed potatoes he had with Monday night's dinner. I made extra to make potato pancakes. Needless to say I will not be making potato pancakes tomorrow. All gone.

On the brighter side of things, at least your house isn't made of gingerbread. ;-)

I feel your pain!! We only have three kids, ages 12, 11 and 7, and they are constantly eating. I feel like I have to guard the kitchen at all times. If I'm not watching the kitchen and the pantry like a hawk for an hour and a half before meals, they end up pilfering the fridge and pantry before meals, and while they DO eat their full meals, that's twice the food!!
While a cow, pig and a chicken would be great, another form of income just dedicated to bringing food into the house would be lovely!

Mine go to work with me from 9am-noon but whine the whole morning about having a snack. I keep telling them you don't have a snack at this time while you are in school. They haven't gotten to out of control yet.

I think it is all the running around and playing during summer that makes them hungry. We go through fruit like it is going out of style. Happy Summer.

Oh I feel your pain in the pocketbook. Isn't it amazing how boredom and starvation go hand in hand? And how they poor on the guilt - "there's never anything goooood to eat" or "I didn't get any because you didn't save me some"....

Can't tell you how often I have wished our homeowners regulations allowed a COW.
We go through EIGHT (yes, EIGHT) gallons of milk a week. I have two huge subzero refrigerators, and I STILL go shopping three times a week because I can't keep enough food in the house.

I feel you. I've doled out enough snacks to feed an army lately!

I totally get what you're saying! The kids drive me crazy when they're home! All they want to do is eat!

My kids eat like gerbils, but ask for food all. day. long. It drives me crazy! Why would any child need to eat that much? I'm tired of listening to the pantry door open after I've said no, and I'm tired of the old age whine, "but I'm HUNgry uh huh huh huh..." I imagine it's only going to get worse as they get older.

I think Bug is in the midst of a growth spurt. I cannot feed her enough...she is always hungry!

That is so exactly what my mother kept telling my brother and me 40 years ago -- I guess things never really change, do they? Thanks for a sweet memory and a nice laugh -- and good luck with locking down the kitchen!

Tara did not like meat (except a McDs hamburger) when she was little, now it seems I can't make enough protein at any meal. I could use a cow and a chicken too, oh and a rice paddy!

I'm thinking of turning my garage into a McDonald's.
