I Think There's a Point to this Post

I like people.

I guess i'm a 'people person.'

I'm fascinated by others. Their lives, their looks, their stories, what makes them tick.

People watching is a favorite past time. Airports, malls, school PTO meetings, restaurants.

It's why I love blogging and reading blogs. You get to jump into someone else's life for a bit and see how they live. How I may or may not have an easier life than the next guy (girl). Not so much to compare, but to put things in perspective.

When times are tough for me (and I mean in my mind because the home life is awesome) I tend to take the WOE IS ME path and something inside me gets all dread-y like and suddenly i'm the ONLY person in the world dealing with these particular issues.

You need people, friends, other bloggers to talk with, learn about, commiserate with to tell yourself, 'ah, i'm NOT the only one that deals with this!'

For that, I thank You, and you, and you over there rocking in the corner.

My hubby is so not like that. I mean he's a nice guy to others, but people don't excite him. He prefers the inanimate like tools and machines, and fixing things that may or may not be broken.

We're different that way, always have been. Not that it's a bad thing we're different. Engineer major, I was a human development major. He did math and physics, and other stuff that had numbers and letters jumbled together that weren't words. I wrote papers on people, and studied people, and did interships in schools with little people.

I'm not sure where I was going with this post, but I'm just happy to find a place for me here in the blogging world. I never knew how powerful writing could be. I've always loved reading books, but reading blogs is so much better. I may spend a butt-load of time on the computer, but I will never say it's time wasted. Definately time well-spent learning about and enjoying the people that I love.

First, I have to thank you for YOUR posts...your writing definitely gives me a good giggle and I enjoy visiting your blog regularly. I, too, spend far too much time online reading blogs, but it keeps me entertained, inspired, encouraged...all of the above :)

I hear you sister! I started blogging back in May..& the difference it has made... My earlier blogs were kinda "Poor Me" as where now I am "wow...this is different.. I can learn something here.." I think a lot of this comes from reading other bloggers thoughts & life experiences...

My hubby is also an Engineer..& I am the people person so I totally Get ya...

Well said, Momma. Ironically, I have to keep explaining to my wife about this blogging thing, and the amount of time on the computer...she doesn't get it.

    But like you, I do.

Dear Mom, you are so right. It's not that I'm a gossip, but I do the same thing. I love hearing about other people's lives, how they do things that I do too, how they deal with things that I deal with every day...it's a natural curiosity to find a way to better myself, to realise that I'm actually not that strange but rather normal...There really is a point to your posting! I totally got it!

So what I hear you saying is...you like people, right? ;-) I think that is a perfect point for a post. I think that is the point in life! People. People who need people, are the loveliest people in the world...(sorry, that's all the Streisand I remember without googling it)

I know what you mean about the people person part. I love watching people and love reading blogs about different people.

I have also learned a lot from so many people...it's crazy how I just started out to keep in touch with family...and, well, it's a lot better than that now!

Great post, Jen...and I heart your blog!

    I'm glad you're a people person!

    You rock!

Man, do I get you today! I think I will paste your last paragraph and keep repeating it to my husband.

I am a people person too. I can just watch and observe for what seems like forever sometimes.
I ao completely share your view on reading blogs. It is so nice to get a glimpse into other peoples lives.

Well...you are welcome, and back at you. I feel the same way...and dh feels the same as yours. It's hard to explain to them the "need" to have other people in our lives...wether they are IRL or online...they just don't get it...how could I possibly get any sort of satisfaction from people that I don't know...

    Anyway, I get you...completely.

I like to people watch but I'm not really a people person. What's that saying? The more I know about people the more I love my dogs? Something like that. Any yet, I love a lot of people. Ugh, we can be so contradictory sometimes!

Great post! I have been in a funk lately and I am loving the honest posts, the thoughtful posts, the sad posts, etc. There is a lot of therapy in reading them.. I am thinking I should try my hand at writing about what I have been feeling.. I have been waiting until I have worked myself out of the funk to write the post.. but its been lingering.. maybe writing the post is what I need in order to get out of it. Sorry I am rambling, but I just wanted to say thanks for the post.

Yes blogging can be the medecine to shake off any not so nice feelings that you might be having, I know what you mean! Hope you have a great day Jen ;)

You hit it so right on! Amen to all that.
And my hubby? Biologist. Need I say more?

  19. WeaselMomma said...

That's about the gist of it. To vent, commiserate, know that we are not alone, be vouyers and most importantly, laugh. Check out Weasels latest post if You want to do all of the above(not really. Just the laughing and maybe shaking your head and wondering do people really live like this and where do they get this stuff). You will feel much better about the world you live in.

That's exctly what I love about blogs and blogging...realizing that you aren't the only one who thinks or feels that way, realizing your daughter isn't the only one acting like that, realizing that your husband isn't the only one that does that. It's online sanity, that's what it is!

I totally agree Jen. It definitely helps put life in perspective. Lots of people don’t “get” blogging but I think you did a very good job explaining it.

I definitely agree with you and I love reading blogs for the same reason. It's just so telling about human nature and who we are as a species to read other's innermost thoughts!

It's funny, because I was thinking about posting about how different my husband and I are, and then I find this post--I think it's a sign!

Blogging is more powerful than I ever thought it would be. It has consumed me, but in a good way! I too love meeting new people and reading new things and the blog world is the best place to do it!

i can so relate to this! especially over the last 2 days. it's so nice to get comments that reassure you that you're not the only one going through something, having to make a decision or freaking out about something. not only that, but i have had people thank me for my posts because they felt like they were the only one ___(fill in the blank)___. it feels good to know that i have "helped" someone.

  26. Janine said...

Totally agree with you. I love the 'real-life-ness' of blogs, especially so-called mom blogs.

I TOTALLY get what you mean!! Blogging is a form of relaxation for me. A time to put everything in perspective. Have a good laugh or a good cry.

Essentially, it is a book that I never want to end!

I completely agree. It is a way to get out of the house for a bit even if it is a virtual field trip. And I am totally with you on the people watching hobby but I hadn't equated it with my blog addiction till now. Interesting!

You're so right! There will be days when I feel so alone or just crappy and I'll come online and read the blogs in my reader only to see someone else is feeling the same way. I love blogging and I love blog reading!!! http://spiceworld.us

Thank YOU for YOUR posts! :) I wish I would have found your blog a year ago when the hubs was on his year-long "vacation" in Iraq. (LOL, I know, not really a vacation) It's always nice to see that you are not alone and that others are experiencing the craziness we call marriage and children...and still surviving. HAHA! :) ♥ Keep up the good posts!

My husband and I are the same way. Me- the social butterfly, him- homebody. But it works for us. I love being on the computer and this is turning out to be a new addiction for me! You can tell by my house, it's a wreck! I love your blog, it's so funny and true to all of us mom's. - Nicole

I totally get what you're saying. I've been reading your blog for a while now, and always can relate!

I started my blog just to write out my thoughts/feelings, and now love visiting other blogs to hear what's going on with others and how others are going through similar events. Make me feel not so alone in this state of life called motherhood! I also love the comments I get from others on my blog....so non-judgemental.

    Thanks for keeping it real!

So true, all of it, so true. I also enjoy reading your blog, Jen, it's terrific and I love getting to know you a little bit more each day.

My hubby is the same - computer engineer and not a people person like me. I guess opposites really DO attract, lol!

    Keep the fabulous posts, comin'!

blogging is very much my therapy as well...

I feel like unloading all of this on IRL friends would be a burden to them. BUT in the blogging world, if the internets want to read they will, if they don't they won't.

It is a release for me...whether someone responds or not, ya know.

ah, anyway, just wanted to express my blogging love too!

It's interesting how couples are often different but complement each other. I know that I've definitely become more confident and social by following the example of my husband who is such a fun "people person"!
