Tricks or Treats?
I'm trying to figure out a costume for myself for Halloween.Still can't get hubby to jump on board any costume. Bah Humbug! Some Chewbacca-Gone-Bad story of his youth or something. Whatevs.
I want to be a baseball player-girl. But like Amy, Amy, Bo Bamey mentioned in her guest post a while back, everything that is made for a woman has the word, "SEXY" in front of it.
You literally look like you'll turn tricks for treats with some of these.
Sorry but for the one Halloween party that I'm going to and hosting, I will not be baring my midriff in a crop-jersey, wearing knee socks and bootie uniform pants. No matter how much my hubby begs me to.

HAH! Just kidding, he isn't begging me to wear it. He wouldn't notice if I came in a Hefty bag. It would be nice though, ya know, to be begged once in a while.....sigh.......
ANYHOO.
But I'm thinking i'm just going to go as a Witch, feels right.
But...DQ got a cute witch costume, not sure if I should run the idea by her or not. The party is for kids and her friends will be there....dammit, I better not embarass her.
Hmm....I'm not good at this. When I was a teacher, I wrapped a huge box, made neck and arm holes and put a bow on my head and went as a present. I thought it was pretty creative, but my Kindergarteners and first graders kept calling me THE BOX. I think I wore a pumpkin shirt the next year and called it good.
I totally remember having Wonder Woman Underoos!! Anyone else?!
But, this...aye yi yi! Leaving nothing to wonder...
Then I thought, a cat would be safe, you're mostly covered up in a unitard....until I saw this!
MEOW!
My son's costume also has a whip (Indy Jones)...so wrong in many ways.
This is by far the safest cat to wear.
No skin showing whatsoever.
I think i'd rather be a box.

Lol at the cat in the hat, I agree about the baseball costumes though. We are going to a halloween party the 25th and I decided on this one:
Femal Boxer

Ha! Totally digging Catwoman. You should check out my Halloween costume post (To The Bat Cave).
You're right though. You don't know how hard I had to pull and tug to keep my boobs from falling out atop some preschooler's head last year when I decided to be the fashion police. You either end up showing much skin or you end up being something boring. Not much in the middle =/
Good luck with finding something just for you. (If you don't mind showing some leg they have baseball player girls outfits that are a full shirt and skirt)

Our costumes are Fred and Wilma. It took me a long time to find something not whorish. I hate that they try to slut everything up--what about women like me that nobody wants to see that much of? Why do we get left out?
Good luck. Let us know what you decide.
October 8, 2008 at 4:57 AM
I like the first cat the best!! Looks like your type of costume ;) I wear the witch hat and sometimes a wig and call it done!! You don't have to have strain to imagine me as a witch!!
October 8, 2008 at 5:07 AM
Ha! Former Fat Chick put up a poll on her blog and everyone voted for her to be Wonder Woman. Not that she has any party to go but she said she was going to find one and crash it. Warn your neighbor!!
October 8, 2008 at 5:12 AM
Don't you hate the costumes now a days? You are so right...something sexish about every one and when you look at the girl ones they are about the same...I just can't believe it!
clothes are out of control too..when I went shopping for clothes for the boys this year 75% had skulls on in some shape or form. Insane...I just don't get it!
October 8, 2008 at 5:37 AM
Not to sway your decision at all, but I HAVE the Cat in the Hat costume...and it is hotter than hades.
Big fan of Wonder Woman...but then, I AM slightly male.
October 8, 2008 at 5:52 AM
The least sexy costume I went in was Mrs.Pillsbury Dough Boy. With stffed long johns and an apron and bonnet. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. My favorite thing I went as was Endora off Bewitched. The entire board of PTO gals went as famous witches. It was hilarious. You could go as Glenda, the good witch. She was glittery and all purdee.
October 8, 2008 at 5:52 AM
oh goodness some some those are pretty bad...i lost a bet so now my husband is making us go as ketchup and mustard...end me.
October 8, 2008 at 5:54 AM
I'd go with the baseball girl, but don't hoochie it up so much...
October 8, 2008 at 6:06 AM
I think costumes have gotten even racier than when we were kids. I'm thinking the safe route would be to make use of the accessories and pair it with something you can buy at a clothing store. Like wear black pants and a black top and buy the cat mask and a tail?
October 8, 2008 at 6:16 AM
You could always go with the safe tourist, chef, doctor ( I was a proctologist once- just get an extra large glove, wear it on one hand and keep it upright alot), sports fan....
If I had the bod for the smut adult costumes, I don't think I'd wear them still! Hmmmm....yeah, maybe I would!
October 8, 2008 at 6:19 AM
ah, thanks for my daily morning chuckle ... especially the comment about your son's costume also having a whip and being so wrong in many ways!
October 8, 2008 at 6:26 AM
Try here Jen http://www.costumes4less.com
October 8, 2008 at 6:41 AM
Yeah... I am at a loss too. Who knew it would be so tough to come up with a cute, "I'm a mommy, not a hooker" look. I will be thinking and see if I can come up with anything to help you out. Funny post...
October 8, 2008 at 6:52 AM
too funny.
you are not alone. Have you seen costumes for what they call TWEENS?
They are a little too "sexy" if you ask me.
My Mom and step dad went as each other one year. It was easy for my Mom, she just work a suit and a wig. My step dad on the other hand...it was TOO much. (i still laugh at the pix, which of course hang on my fridge for ALL to see)
How about going as a scrub nurse or doctor. You would be decently covered and comfy. (which IMO is always a bonus and a must) All you would need is comfy tennis shoes or crocs, a pair of scrubs and or lab coat.
Let us know what you decide.
October 8, 2008 at 7:01 AM
LOL, they may be sexy, but the do get the point across. The Little Lady is sitting beside me and started meowing when I scrolled down to the cat costumes. So, yeah -- I don't think anyone would mistake you for a box!
October 8, 2008 at 7:02 AM
lol I've noticed the costumes just keep getting worse and worse every year. I think it's safest just to find a good idea and make your own costume. This post just cracks me up.
October 8, 2008 at 7:21 AM
I am going to stick to my Mrs. Potts costume I got from Disney a few years back.....or I will wear my husbands old Army Camos......I have to many kids to wear anything 'sexy'.........maybe when I'm older! and saggy and older.....
October 8, 2008 at 7:35 AM
LOL,I remember the Wonder Woman underoos as well! ;o)
You could go as static cling. Saftey pin some clothes & dryer sheets to your clothes. You'll smell good, too, lol.
October 8, 2008 at 7:43 AM
LOL you would be so cute as wonder woman! you could totally pull it off.
October 8, 2008 at 8:14 AM
Have you looked at most of the costumes for tween girls? They just scream Lolita! I can't stand it. I'm trying to convince Bug to be a soccer player this year (hint: won't have to buy a costume) but she's not going for it. I said we can make it a family theme: Dad can be the Coach and I'll be Soccer Mom! I'll even carry a water bottle filled with vodka! But no dice. *sigh*
October 8, 2008 at 8:18 AM
Do NOT let my husband see the Wonder Woman costume!
October 8, 2008 at 8:45 AM
Oh how I love Wonder Woman and have some really embarrassing pictures of me in the wonderoos!
I say go with her, she's sassy and powerful, just like you!
October 8, 2008 at 8:48 AM
wonder woman or bust!
October 8, 2008 at 9:06 AM
I can't offer any help with the costumes (I'm a party pooper--hey, maybe you can go as that!), but I just wanted to say I had the Wonder Woman underoos too!
October 8, 2008 at 9:15 AM
I am so bad at picking Halloween costumes. There was a website that I was looking at, costumecity.com and maybe it had good stuff for adults? I didn't look but, it had a TON of choices for kids!
October 8, 2008 at 9:54 AM
LOL I'm gonna be a witch lady but my costume too said sexy in front of it. Um I am NOT gonna look sexy. It's a damn long black dress.
And why not go buy real baseball pants? They are usually tight on men so I think you would look hott with some tight pants on. And buy a snug fitting jersey.
October 8, 2008 at 9:57 AM
i tagged you over at my blog, check it out. Please.
THANKS!!!
October 8, 2008 at 9:57 AM
Those are great- The cat (not in the hat)- OMG! I have a sexy nurse costume and swear to you, if I get down to the weight I want, I am going to try to match my new beautiful header that you made me!!!
And yes, the tooth was not a baby tooth (either was the last one)!
October 8, 2008 at 10:11 AM
I think I am going as a witch this year. Still not sure on what to dress my boys as. Any good ideas from past years with your boy?
October 8, 2008 at 10:27 AM
why is it that everything for women is "sexy" this or "sexy" that. last time i dressed up i was a nun. fully covered. leaving EVERYTHING to the imagination.
October 8, 2008 at 10:27 AM
I like a witch then if you are feeling a wee bit bitchy you can say you are just in character :)
If I had the body of the sexy girls in the costume I would totally rock them. Me thinks people don't want to see my fat bulging outta the slits in the catwomen costume or the stretchmark ridden midriff. I am more throw on a white sheet do some eye cutouts and go as Casper.
October 8, 2008 at 10:51 AM
I totally miss my Wonder Woman Underoos.
They should make a grown up full coverage version with cute boy shorts and a tank. I would wear it under my daily mom uniform.
October 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM
I think I'm going to go as a pumpkin. It'll hide my middle. Or maybe I'll just throw a sack on. Ugh. Decisions, decisions.
October 8, 2008 at 11:51 AM
I sooooo agree with you I have often wondered to ALL woman use Halloween as an excuse to dress trampy???? We were invited to a halloween party and I declined for the reason I seen last years pics and yeah..... I may be a fuddy duddy, but it looked a little too wild for me!!!
October 8, 2008 at 12:04 PM
I was thinking the same thing as I was perusing ebay for a costume to go to a Halloween party with. What the!! I've had 3 children, I just want a normal, nice, belly covering costume, pls.
Anyhoo, I am tagging you! http://sexdiariesofamom.blogspot.com/2008/10/ive-been-tagged.html

I think you should do the baseball chick, but wear capris...LOL
Or you can just relent and go as a Madame.
October 8, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Haha nice! I've been Supergirl twice, and a Go-Go girls once! Yes, they both showed some leg, but everything else was COMPLETELY covered up!!
This year I'm going for Wicked Witch of the West!!
You could always be a 20's flapper girl!

October 8, 2008 at 2:28 PM
You could rock that cat in the hat costume, I think!
October 8, 2008 at 4:14 PM
I seriously hate that all girl costumes are sexified now...it bugs the shit out of me ....but I'm all about authenticity when it comes to costumes, lol - and still looking cute. But if you want to be something sexy, be a whore/stripper/french maid/etc., something that already IS sexy ...not dorothy from the wizard of oz in a mini dress ...you know what I mean? I feel like all those costumes are for the bedroom anyway
...but you could be a cute baseball girl and still make it sexy without wearing an effing tiny skirt ....go to big5 {or whatever} to the little boys section and find some pants that fit you and yank em up to your knees ...then get one of those cute t-shirts {kinda like shown but full length} but also in the boys section if you don't want it to be too baggy...knee socks....hat, glove...black under the eyes ...but full make up of course :)
Sorry for the novel!
October 8, 2008 at 4:21 PM
It's so sad, right?! Where is the happy medium!? I don't really have anything against sexy costumes, but I personally would look awful in that cat costume or the baseball girl. I think you and DQ should totally match in your witch costumes! At least its less embarrassing than her mom wearing that cat costume right? I would think so...
October 8, 2008 at 4:37 PM
You could always dress up like a doctor! It would be very fitting!!

October 8, 2008 at 4:47 PM
I actually wore my wonder woman under roos as a costume one year. You would look hot in the cat costume, go for it! I am being a pig, lucky me!
October 8, 2008 at 5:03 PM
I completely agree with you about costume's now a days. I love Halloween and I wanted to dress up but I dont want to show my daughter that dressing so provocative is OK. If I dress that way then it just sets a bad example in my opinion. Good luck finding a costume. I am still on the hunt for one.
October 8, 2008 at 5:26 PM
What about a men's baseball jersey, sweats or yoga pants, a hat and a little black jazz under the eyes?
October 8, 2008 at 6:00 PM
Oh my gosh - you're not kidding. Once a girl hits 12, it's as if you're expected to be a ho-bag for Halloween.
I'm just disgusted by looking through the pictures. The best part? If you're plus sized, like me, you're STILL expected to be all whoreish. A sexy barmaid or a wench or a big-ass fairy or nymph or something. It's just nasty.
October 8, 2008 at 6:18 PM
I think I'll be going as the mom who just had a baby this year!
What about getting a little baby shoe for your hair and dressing in pink, then you could be "gum on my shoe."
October 8, 2008 at 6:53 PM
I'm dressing as a rat. It's kinda sexy but mosty sneaky. I made it.
October 9, 2008 at 4:40 AM
One year, my brother's wife wrapped her entire body in white gauze and put red paint at the top. She was a tampon. Now if that isn't the opposite of sexy, I'm not sure what is.
October 9, 2008 at 5:36 AM
I had WW underoos too! I tried to find them a few years ago for the kids but couldn't find them anywhere. We need a "bring back underoos" petition!
October 9, 2008 at 9:22 AM
i found some kickass costumes on a site...i have to dig it up for you. my dh gave me 'permission' to bring any of them home. LMAO

October 9, 2008 at 4:04 PM
my fav costume yet was the year I was a beauty pageant contestant, with a real beaded evening gown and the stage makeup...it was a sight and a heavy sight at that!
October 9, 2008 at 7:09 PM
Wow, who knew that in order to create a cat in that hat costume all I'd need are a pair of black longjohns which I could just tack a tail onto, a dopy hate, and I'd be set! *lol*
Um, I think I'm letting the Imp dress up and I'll just go as my usual self, a very scary mommy!
Auds at Barking Mad
October 10, 2008 at 6:44 AM
Haha! Someone about mentioned "Wonderwoman or bust!" and I just started chuckling. With THAT costume- it's more like Wonderwoman AND bust!
You could totally go as a pregnant person (though stuffing some old maternity clothes may get people asking when you are due). OR you could do the totally safe and WAY BORING baby and just wear pajamas and carry a pacifier.
BUT- I think you should go all out and buy a big roll of tin foil, wrap yourself in it and go as leftovers!
Happy POW!
October 10, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Love them all -- the only one I could pull off would be the cat in the hat! I usually dress up in a halloween tee-shirt myself. What about going as a mummy and just wrapping yourself up in cloth bandages.
And, I had Bionic Woman undies!
Happy POW!
October 10, 2008 at 12:02 PM
I still have a "sexy" maid costume from college that my husband asks me to put on all the time, even when it's not Halloween. Hmmm.... wonder what's up with that... ; )
October 11, 2008 at 3:12 PM
LOL @ Elaine's comment. So far, I've been a pirate, raggedy ann, and dorothy...I have no idea what I'm going to wear this year. Maybe I can wear my own clothes and go as a maid..(does that count if only the KIDS think YOU are what maids look like?)
October 13, 2008 at 7:18 PM
So what are you saying...you want to borrow my POW suit??
