The One Where I Followed the Rules
...continued from Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday's posts. After dinner we strolled over to Caesars to get the lay of the land and where we were supposed to go Friday afternoon.
We knew Ellen was inside the Colosseum taping her TBS special, so we weren't going to get a peek at her here.... Hung out a little while trying to see celebs, to no avail.
2am and we finally make it back to our room. The hotel people informed us that Harrah's next door has live music until 4am every night, no big deal we can hang. Luckily the music was good stuff and well we couldn't afford to upgrade the room anyway. We had a great view from our balcony.
A few hours later we woke and headed to the hotel restaurant for a typical Vegas-Breakfast-of-Champions.
Not a winner.
Getting ready for the show was next.
Rereading the letter that came with the Ellen tickets, it said NO CAMERAS. It even went as far to say that if they found you with one, you'd be asked to take it back to your room/car/house in CA. I didn't want to risk not seeing the show so I was a good girl and followed the rules.
We walk across the street when ready and see a long line outside the building. We walk over to the area ready to stand in line, although it wasn't what we were told last night. Luckily for us, a crew member for the Ellen show talked to us and when he saw we had 'hard' tickets he guided us inside. That was the line for stand-by tickets.
Finally make it into the auditorium and the set is amazing, the crowd is loud, the music is pumping, and EVERYONE is taking pictures. Flashes go around everywhere and I kick myself for not even having a camera phone with me!
Second mezzanine level and all the thrill of being a part of the show was exhilerating. Ellen came out of the floor dancing and was just so entertaining to watch. Bette Midler was a guest, Pink performed two amazing songs, and a Fabio-esque magician stunned us all.
NO giveaway, bummer. I guess it was all the expense of the 4000+ crowd. I did purchase shirts for Yaya, Papa, and myself though, which was a cool memento.
Dancing for 3 hours in those heels took a toll on my tootsies. I walked barefoot through the Forum shops afterwards, getting the attention of a nearby store worker.
"Why are you carrying your beautiful, expensive shoes?"
Me--Oh I just danced with Ellen for 3 hours, i'm pooped.
Expensive. Hah. Way to go Payless Shoe Source, ahem, I mean Jimmy Choo.

Watching the show, I could totally feel the incredible energy that you must have experienced in that crowd. On the bright side, next time, you can wear flats AND bring your camera :)

My first and only stay in Vegas was at Harrah's. I can relate to the hurt feet, the walk over to Caesar's in 3" heels (also from Payless) was murder for me and my friends. I can't wait for my next trip =)

I love how it looks like "Cheaper than Therapy" is a part of the posters for the shows.
I hope that made sense, but it might not have.
Oh well...
