Double Ice Cream Fix

Some conversations with your children are hard.

Like, "K, you need 3 shots tomorrow, what kind of ice cream do you want afterwards?"

See how I tried to soften the blow of the news at the end?

THAT is good parenting.

Plus, her shocked little face all scrunched up in terror was so pathetic and sad, I had to do something.

WHY, WHY, WHY do I need the shots?

"Oh, dumb ol' Kindergarten, it's for school!  The school is making you do it, not mommy, the school. Bad school."

(THAT is not good parenting).

I don't want to go to school then.  I want to stay home, and go to pweeschool again!

"K, I don't think they'll let you in, you're getting too big, then what happens when you turn 6, then 7, then 8?"

Then I'll go get the shots when i'm 8, not tomorrow.  Not when I'm 5.

"So remember, mommy said you can get ice cream after.  What kind do you want?"

No-shots ice cream.

"How about ice cream before AND after?!"

Okay, dumb Kindergarten!

Sorry in advance Maestra.

See, at least you warn your kids. Last year at the littlest Z's four year check up, they offered to give her her shots instead of waiting until this year. I asked if there was any reason to wait, and they said no. So I said go for it. They came back and I told her they were going to give her some medicine to keep her from getting sick. I NEVER mentioned the word "shot." Luckily, the nurse called them vaccines. She said ok. So the nurse gave her all four shots and not a single wimper or tear. Wow--what a stud she was. I ended up getting her ice cream after! I'm sure that K will be fine and will love the ice cream!

Shots are the WORST. Brynlie and Madelyn are both getting them on Thursday--totally stealing your ice cream trick ;)

I love this! I started taking my kids to the health department to get their shots because they started to fear the doctor's office all together. Now they know what's up depending on if it's the "good dr" or the "bad dr" LOL
