Psychology Schmychology

(whispering)I'm trying something new today. A wee bit of reverse psychology if you will.

My baby K is LOUD. She is a loud talker, a louder crier, a loud whisperer, she is just loud. I'm not sure if that comes with being the 3rd child, and the having noisy siblings, but man that pint-sized peanut has some volume!

Today I remembered a technique taught in one of my classroom management courses in the Credential program. If your classroom gets out of control with noise, start whispering your lesson....continue to talk very quietly and soon the rest will quiet down to listen.

Hmm...let me try it with K. Today is a perfect day for it too. My head is extra-sensitive to sound and I'm already dosed up on Motrin, so this can only be more beneficial.

K--(in her volume 10 voice)MAMA BABA?! MAMA BABA?! MAMA BABA?! (we'll save Repetition 101 for a later discussion!)

Me--(whispering) Do you want your milk then? Okay mommy will get it for you.

K--MAMA MO BABA?! MAMA BABA?! MAMA MO BABA?!

Me--yes K, I'm opening the refrigerator and getting your milk

K--MAMA BABA?! BABA MOM?! MAMA MO BABA?!

Me-I'm pouring your milk K, you are being very patient [whispering sarcasm]

K--MAMA MO BABA MOM!

Me--OH MY GOODNESS HERE IT IS!

Well that lasted a whole 2 minutes. Tomorrow i'm going to try something new, possibly earplugs!
