Dad, Dad, So SAHD

Hubby's dream is to be a stay-at-home-dad.

It is, really. Ask him.

He loves to joke and say "when your blogging career takes off, I'm staying at home with the kids!"

Did he get a memo that Dooce is looking for a sidekick?!

In Dreamland Hubby would totally rock the SAHD thing. I'm totally jealous, he'd be so much better than me at it too.

Hubby's an outside person. The kids are too. He would be outside with the kids in the rain, the snow fog, summer heat, he'd be the MAILMAN of Stay-at-home-dad-dom.

There'd be science projects bubbling in the garage, new shelving units in all the closets, and our dad-built swingset would be all pimped out with reinforced pipes and lumber and other hardware store gizmos.

Everyone would enjoy their gummy worm breakfasts and Oreo lunches.

No rules, just fun times.

Not like me at all. I'm the mean parent. I MAKE the kids brush their teeth, shower, and eat fruits and vegetables.

No Honey, strawberry jello doesn't count as a 'fruit group.'

Maybe it's better I stay a 'low key' blogger. It's like job security.

Don't want hubby to take my control true calling away from me.

I'd almost say you're lucky that your hubby wants to be the SAHD... while mine loves his kids and appreciates the house kept clean (by me, remember, no maid...), he wouldn't EVER in his lifetime want to do it as his "full time" job. And frankly, I don't know if I'd want to switch places with him. :)

My Hank think's that he would love to stay home also. He does all the yard work and doesn't mind throwing a load of clothes in the washer. If he could just cook....ah...like would be perfect.

Its so amazing what these husbands consider healthy choices. When I'm gone, the standards are just not the same!

Same goes here, Jen. I think Erik would make a better SAHP than moi. I'm the meanie, too. Although, if THEY were the ones home with the kiddos for 10 straight years...maybe they'd be mean by now, too?

It's all sunshine and roses until someone needs tampons or a shirt ironed. Then they'd all see your worth.

Ha! My hubby makes comments like that "when your blog starts making money...". I'm like: what money?

Funny! There are definitely areas where Brad would win hands down over me as a Stay At Home Parent!!!

Thank goodness I have him to even it all out!!!

    Great post!

Sounds like my husband. LOL! I joke to my husband that I get to be the first one to quit my job. He'll just have to wait.

Ok, so you just ruined my day, MOM. Strawberry jello doesn't count as a fruit group???? What about raspberry? Huh?

How awesome. Myabe you could go halfseys. is that a word? I mean, you write your little post a day, and watch it generate millions, cram some veggies in your kids mouth and then you can go off shopping and playing while hubby works the house. Does he do laundry? Sounds dreamy to me.

You're lucky! My hubby is good...but I don't think he'd last a week with the bickering and nagging!

And dealing with the kids would be tough, too. ;-P

My husband wants to be a SAHD, too. I always tell him that I look like the Fun Governor next to him so he's not allowed.

Lol! That sounds just like what would happen if Leo would become a sahd! Lol!

ROFL!! I always love your strikeout text - cracks me up!! The last one today "control" - that got me. :)

Well, if he actually did stay home with them for a while, he'd realize there would HAVE to be rules. For survival.

You know what? All those articles about Dooce are setting expectation a little high. My hubs said the same thing to me the other day...he can't wait to quit his job when I start making the big bucks. Right. When our family can live off $200 a month, we'll talk about it.

Nah he'd never be better than you. Check out my blog cuz I got something for ya.

What a great SAHD he would be! Even on paper, I don't sound 1/2 that fun! I would have to agree with you...stay as low key as possible!

my hubby is a part time SAHD... and he rocks at it because he is the outdoor guy. I think they are planning on grabbing in the rain today...

you would come home from work and the kids (and him, for that matter) would all be wandering around pants-less, wearing their underwear on their heads. trust me. they would.

Lol -- my hubby wants the same thing. . . until I actually leave him alone with Ellie for any length of time; then I get phone call after phone call asking when I'll be home!

That's awesome that you have a man who actually wants to be a SAHD! Good man!

I would be afraid of what you would come home to if you ever did leave the house to work....I agree, blog 'silently'! It's great job security! ;)

Newbie on your blog.... My hubby always says that he wants to be a SAHD, which will includes chores too (with my help when Im home, of course).. But, so far he is the one that makes more money, so that wont be happening!!!

My hubby has dreams of being a SAHD but I think there is a nannie in that dream too.

My husband would so love to be a SAHD too! He hints about it all the time!

LOL funny! I love this post. My husband has never said he wants to be a SAHD, but he is a much better "mommy" than I am in so many ways. So, yeah, I want him to keep his day job so as not to turn me irrelevant as far as the kids' are concerned.

  31. Shannon said...

LOL!!!! That is mine's dream too . . . he's waiting for me to figure out some way to make millions so he can hang out at home all day. The sad part is he actually thinks he might be able to do it ;-)

Perhaps your hubby should give my hubby a pep talk. I don't think he's appreciating what he's got quite enough. What I appreciate is that I'll get home tonight to Bunco Chili in the crock pot. Amen.

Too funny! My husband wouldn't last a week as a SAHD. he couldn't handle it. He tells me that all the time!

  34. amelia bedelia said...

plus, he probably wouldn't be nearly as hilarious as you are! we would have to start reading stories about tools or some awesome new car that sounded really loud.

We are BOTH jobless at the moment and it kinda stinks... Chris is fun with the kids, but I think he tends to be more of the rule follower than me. I guess the kids have a good balance with us both here

  36. Rochelle said...

If my hub stayed home the kids would be fluent in all sports. 6 or 7 hours of Sports Center will give them a GREAT education! But of course they would be happy and love him, unlike how they hate the evil mom.

  37. scargosun said...

We have no kids and although P was a teacher...he would not be able to handle being a SAHD. It woul dbe amusing to video the experience though.

  38. flickrlovr said...

That's sweet that he wants to :)
But someone has to keep the kids' teeth from rotting now, don't they?

  39. Kristen Andrews said...

my hubby has no desire to be a SAHD, says he couldn't do it. I will say your hubby may find it isn't as glamourous as it seems. Prior to being a SAHM I thought all women did was sit around while the kids played. Boy was I wrong, I think it is harder than my prior job and I had a pretty tough job. Maybe your hubby is different and would love. My hubby would run back to work.

  40. Tasha said...

Ha. My DH would hang himself with the toy phone within the first week if he were a SAHD. He knows it. I know it. And the kids know it. LOL

  41. Minxy Mimi said...

    LOL!!!
Sounds like an awesomely fun daddy, but those poor kids teeth!!!

  42. Tena said...

Jim says this a lot, and while I know he would be wonderful at it, I think he would climb up the walls within 6 weeks!
    HA HA HA

  43. Lisa~Crazy Adventures in Parenting said...

Thats really cute:) My husband, however, wouldn't be able to handle it I don't think. Not that staying home all the time wouldn't rock his socks, but having that responsibility that comes along with it would drive him to be gray lol

  44. Wendi said...

    This is hilarious!
    And so true!
I always tease and say my kids would rather go to work with their Dad than to go to Disney with me.
That may be a stretch, but he could do this stay at home thing so much better than me.
I would let him except my teaching background would not support our current lifestyle.
    Great post!

I'm a teacher and my husband is always saying "when you become a principal and I stay home". I think not!! I do agree that dad's seem to get to be the fun parent while us mom's suffer the mean parent.

  46. Not Just Any Jen said...

Yeah, what is that about? How come the men get to do all the fun stuff with the kids, and we have to be the ones who feel all guilty because we need to stay in to do laundry.

Ha my hubby says her would like to be a SAHD too, but I know he would go nuts after about a month!

No worries about me losing my job beacuse of my blogs! haha

Mine would LOVE to stay home. But I'm pretty sure he'd have to have a nanny watch her while he's out triathlon training. Guess nobody's perfect!
