I Do Really Know Her!
My cell phone rang Friday and DQ brought it to me."It's Mrs4444. Who is that?"
Oh i'm so excited, it's Barb, my blog-friend!!
We've chatted before on the phone and she is just as lovely as she is on her blog, Half-Past Kissin' Time. We discussed the blogging world, meeting at BlogHer '09, and about life in general.
DQ--So, you don't really know her right?
Me--Well, I know her through her blog, and we've talked a couple times on the phone. We exchanged Xmas cards. I feel I know her.
DQ--But, you don't know her, know her?! Not in person.
Me--I feel like i'm on trial here, yes. You are correct.
DQ--So you might go to a place you've never been (Chicago) and hang out with people you've never met?
Me--Yeah.
DQ--Sounds weird.
So my daughter is concerned about me. She is worried that I'm talking to an imaginary friend on the phone. One that only exists on my computer screen. I can see her concern, I'd be worried about her if she got a call from a Penguin on Club Penguin. That would be freaky. But, I digress.
I know a lot about Barb. She's a teacher, and I love those! She has an amazing family cookbook that she has shared with me and is a fabulous cook. Her new site, Mrs4444 Cooks is the next Pioneer Woman Cooks site, mark my words! Her kids have great names, her hubby dresses like Buddy the Elf, and that's my favorite movie! We would SO be friends in real life.
If you haven't met Mrs4444 yet, visit her sites. She is the founder of Friday Fragments too and what a perfect concept that's been for so many bloggers!

I *LOVE* Mrs4444! And I hope to meet both of you in person at BlogHer.
January 6, 2009 at 5:19 AM
LOL
Dont you just love it when your screen friends come to life? Actually, I have a few I would like to keep behind my LCD if you know what I mean...
GREAT tribute, Jen...I am off to find her site!!
Thanks SO much for being a part of Tuesday's Tribute!!

my kids think i am completely insane and run around with snarky smirks on their faces singing a sarcastic little song about "twitter moms"...
hey, people find their soulmates and get married after meeting online... i think it is perfectly acceptable to find friends, especially keepers like mrs4444, here, too!
January 6, 2009 at 6:48 AM
Yeah for Barb! I know her!!! (that was meant to sound like Buddy in Elf when he 'knows' Santa)
January 6, 2009 at 7:05 AM
At least you know you've taught all the stranger danger stuff to DQ. She's probably right to be concerned us bloggers can be a shady bunch ;)
January 6, 2009 at 7:30 AM
I'll be checking her out!
Kara
January 6, 2009 at 7:35 AM
Thanks for the tip...I'll be checking it out today!!
January 6, 2009 at 7:48 AM
I totally know what you mean! I'm constantly referring to "my friend s-and-so" and Hubby says "you mean that person who's blog you read that you've never actually met?" Whatever! They just don't get it.
January 6, 2009 at 7:54 AM
I gave you an award on my blog! Check it out!
January 6, 2009 at 7:56 AM
My kids also ask questions about whether I know these people that I spend so much time talking to on the computer...they just can't get it!
January 6, 2009 at 7:58 AM
That is too cute. we are crazy aren't we!
January 6, 2009 at 8:01 AM
That club penguin comparison totally cracked me up!
January 6, 2009 at 8:27 AM
I will definately check her out.
Hubby's don't understand us bloggers!!!
January 6, 2009 at 8:32 AM
I completely understand that! This will be my first year at blogher and when telling people their response is: "So you're going to a place you've never met, to possibly room with someone you don't know (I haven't gotten a roommate yet), to meet a bunch of people you don't know." They don't understand how it feels like I know y'all. Don't worry- I understand how you feel. And I haven't talked to any bloggers on the phone yet.
January 6, 2009 at 8:33 AM
ooo such a sweet tribute post! I am going to stop and say hello to her :-)
January 6, 2009 at 9:08 AM
What a great tribute! I personally don't know if I could meet any bloggy friends in real life--I'm afraid they may find out that I'm really just a dork with a computer!
January 6, 2009 at 9:11 AM
I love Mrs4444 or Mrs $$$$$ if you forget to unlock the caps lock! I met a baby board friend 5 years ago and we are close like sisters still today-visiting each other back and forth in our home states! You never know where you'll pick up friends!
January 6, 2009 at 9:12 AM
I love me some Barb! She is so sweet and I feel she really took the time to make me feel included. I am not going to Blogher because well, I still don't really know what I am doing blog wise and I don't think my blog is up to snuff and headed in the direction. I am jealous of you two going and having lots of fun though.
Yeah, I have a hard time explaining my blog friends to my daughter too.
January 6, 2009 at 9:14 AM
well, i love all my imaginary friends. they are so much better than my non-existant real-life friends. i wish i could go to blogher '09. anyway, i'm going to head over and check out her blog.
January 6, 2009 at 9:49 AM
YAY -- another site to peruse. Thanks for sharing!
January 6, 2009 at 10:19 AM
OMGosh, Jen! You are the SWEETEST! Holy Cow.
I thought you were going to mention that Mr.4444 thought you might be a man posing as a bloggy friend for a while there, heehee.
And to think it all began with a bloggy bet about The Bachelorette! Did you watch The Bachelor last night? I think another bet might be in order....
Love you, my bloggy buddy :) SO sweet. Thank you.
January 6, 2009 at 10:26 AM
Oh thank goodness. I thought I was the only one sending Christmas cards to imaginary friends I "know" because of blogs.
yay!
January 6, 2009 at 10:51 AM
I've heard of her blog before and I'm pretty sure I've been there to visit before!
What a nice tribute. I love the blogosphere for this - that we can recognize each other for our talents and acheivements!
p.s. That's funny about your daughter... : )
January 6, 2009 at 11:55 AM
I ♥ barb...I am off to check out her cooking site now
January 6, 2009 at 12:22 PM
Why do others doubt the friendships we make through our blogs. I consider most of the people I follow and who follow me friends.
January 6, 2009 at 12:58 PM
All of my friends and family, that don't understand blogging, are the SAME way! They always say, but you haven't actually met these people????
haha!
It's so nice to meet great people through this virtual world!
January 6, 2009 at 1:29 PM
I love it! I have a BBF too (best bloggy friend.) And my non blogging friends and family think I'm nuts. But I know that one of these days we'll meet.
January 6, 2009 at 3:28 PM
I think blogging friends are great! I congratulate you on going to BlogHer '09. I'm not quite there yet. . .
January 6, 2009 at 5:09 PM
I love my bloggy friends..if only we all lived close enough to actually get together all the time:)
January 6, 2009 at 5:31 PM
I've found Mrs. 4444 through Bloggers Annex. She rocks. I love it that you're friends.
This post is yet another reason to consider BlogHer. Meeting people in real life can be cool.
January 6, 2009 at 7:23 PM
I've found Mrs. 4444 - loved her stuff. I love that DQ is going CIA on you at her wee young age. LOL
January 6, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Speaking of teachers you love...I got the book you suggested on your Vegas trip blog post. I'm reading it now & I loveeeeeeeee it! It's sweet, heart-warming, funny & crazy all at the same time. Right up my alley!
January 6, 2009 at 7:47 PM
I have to agree with ya...I think Barb is a great person, too!
January 6, 2009 at 10:41 PM
I love her too!!!! Take good care of her in Chicago!
January 7, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Thanks for sharing and introducing me to Friday Fragments. I think I sense some fragments coming together :)
January 7, 2009 at 2:55 PM
Ive met 13 women from a forum once... my hubby wasnt too worried! And only one crazy in the bunch...just kidding! LOL
Sometimes you just click and sounds like you did! YAY
January 8, 2009 at 10:35 PM
My whole family (this started with my mother) calls my blog and group world of friends 'internet stalkers'. So now whenever I meet up with somebody in person I get the standard - oh so you're off to meet another internet stalker are you. ha ha.
January 10, 2009 at 7:44 AM
LOL - my husband does the same thing! He doesn't think the people on the screen are 'real'. He gets that my BFF is someone I've never met in person, and even talked to her on the phone himself, but he doesn't REALLY get it.
January 11, 2009 at 8:15 AM
This is cute, I am off to visit her after I pour a cup of coffee.
Can you tell I am catching up on my blog reading?
January 11, 2009 at 2:26 PM
It is SO hard to describe friendships you make online (through blogging, Twitter, wherever) to people in "real life". They don't get it unless they're in it. It's so frustrating!
