Please Ask the Manager!

Baseball season is here.

Love it.

Minus the allergy pills for a few of us, inhaler for My boy, and shirts with booger-sleeve, Spring rocks!

So Hubby resumed his role as Manager of My Boy's team, Mariners this year, he loves it. He's a natural leader/coach and he likes to have fun too. Great combo.

As per usual, no one ever jumps at the chance to volunteer for say Team Mom or scorekeepers, so guess who's doing it?!

I really don't mind much. Hubby gets all the paper work so I have it, just need to pass it out, send emails about fundraisers and such, remind parents to give one of their kidneys up a donation to the league here and there.

This year gets a tad trickier though. For everyone.

Score is kept for the first time for 8 year olds. No more..

Us-great game boys!
Boys-did we win?
Us-everyone is a winner!
Boys-Huh? What?!

Now bragging rights will be introduced, and yes, someone is going to cry.

Not only will score be kept, no more 10 pitches per kid. The 3 strikes and you're out is officially in order in the Farm A division.

That means keep your eye on the ball, and be smart. No swinging for the moon each time.

If that wasn't enough, the kids will pitch the last half of the season.

I'm guessing protective eyewear and a cup are mandatory.

And what's the deal with the jockstrap?!

Yeah, that thing is gross, dudes buy some sliding pants and tuck that bad boy in there.

At practice Friday, one of the dads was asking me about the cup/strap rule and my eyes got all big and buggy and I immediately covered my ears and going LALALALALALALALA!!

Please refer all of that *making a motion with my hands to that area* kind of questioning to the Manager of the team please.

Manager's answer..."if you don't want to get hit in the nads, wear a cup, I don't care how you wear it."

Um, yeah. What he said.

I grew up watching both of my brothers play baseball from age 5 - 16. Every Saturday.

Visions of the snack bar - where every parent was required to volunteer at some point during the season - come to mind. Lemon drops. Bottle Caps. Red Hots. Big League Chew.

Never did pay attention to that jock strap thing... I was too busy flirting with the boys back then... with my big hair and blue eye shadow.

oh yeah, this is when it gets fun, and when you find out just how competitive your son can be :) Mine? Not so much. He was more interested in the dirt than in catching it.

    and yeah, cups are weird.

totally lmao! i have no qualms telling peeps to cover those babies up if they don't want so talk like a girl for a day or two haha it was funny last year mini-me played baseball and she had this one kid on her team. we always had to ask the boys if they were wearing cups (most of them weren't..dippys lol). the one kid says, "I AM!" then proceeds to knock his cup a couple of times to let everyone know he was lmao

AWwww I miss those days. My son only played for two years...But I loved cheering and clapping and leaving every game horse...As for the cut...it was fun watching the boys "check" for themselves...

It was comical the first time my son had to wear a cup! I admit, as a single mom, I had to call my dad over to figure it out! What a contraption!

When I was still training in martial arts, I also served as a judge at tournaments. I cannot tell you how many times I threatened to do a 'tap check' when I thought the boys weren't geared up appropriately. The one time he needs a cup, he'll be glad he's wearing it, and the jock strap it tucks into.

I guess it's time for them to grow up & step up to the plate. ;) Jock straps & cups, oh my. Yuck! I'm with you. I'll deal with the monthly surprise, he'll deal with cups!

Jock straps and cups...just the beginning, Jen. Wait til they end up on your kitchen table where they were placed by the user. Sickos- all of them.

LOL! My little brother is 17 now and playing baseball with his HS and various traveling teams...but I remember when he started playing traveling teams at about 10-11 years old and they would do those little chants.

I forget exactly how they go but one had something in it like...

    something about pin striped suits..then..

we dont play with barbie dolls
we use our bats and balls
    sound off...

Anyway..it was a lot of fun..I look forward to it one day with my boys(but I dont want them to grow up)!

Ah, this brings back memories of my childhood. You know, with three older brothers that all played ball. Yeah, that childhood. It took me a while to figure out what the heck that thing was...

We did the baseball thing for a while, now it's soccer. Lovin' it! Games are shorter, parents are less intense and no one's picking dandelions in the field. I love Spring too!
