Pumpkin Pulp Everywhere
It's going to be a picture kind of week. Yikes, I can imagine what Christmas season's going to look like in the blogosphere! We did our annual pumpkin carving Sunday. DQ found a book with patterns that she and Hubby tried. K got in on the cutting act, last year she just wanted to dive head first into any open pumpkin.
She's very precise
The lawn was spread with pumpkin guts. Hubby was blasted this morning for washing those towels below with everyday laundry. Picture pumpkin pulp and seeds stuck to all the clothes in the dryer. He's been banned from washing anyone else's stuff but towels and his own. He loves to mix things like bathroom rugs and my black clothes too....GRR.
K had a little help from dad.
This is a pirate skeleton from the pattern book...when lit up it looks proper. She also made an "I heart Dance" pumpkin at a friend's bday party.
My Boy with the child-eating pumpkin.
Hubby's cool spider web. He said it felt like it took him 3 hours to complete.
All aglow.
Bummed about the seeds, I usually save them, season, and toast them later. But, Hubby 'forgot' and dumped them all into the dirtiest bucket he could find in the backyard. I could wash them, but he's saving them to plant for next year. I'll get another pumpkin just for me.
Just one thing about pumpkins that are carved, our porch is now a gnat-breeding ground. No one is allowed to open the front door! ;)
Another bummer...forecast for rain Friday.

LOL --- I would have KILLED my hubby for that!
And . . of course, then he wouldn't have gotten killed again for throwing out the pumpkin seeds (mmm, I love me some pumpkin seeds).
Sorry you're (I mean your porch you know . . . not LITERALLY you) a gnat-breeding ground. Those are some NASTY boogers!
And . . . .I'm out.

We didn't get to carve our pumpkins yet, and the squirrels have eaten chunks out of them. I was saving the carving for last minute because of the gnat issue.

They look awesome! I am so glad I still have another year...I hope...until the boys get into pumpkin carving, so I can get away with my cool tin pumpkins on the porch for another year...but I dread the forth coming gnat years:)

They look great! I've been able to avoid the carving/gnat/bugs mess here in Florica since Peanut is still 4. I think next year we may have to do it...
October 28, 2008 at 5:26 AM
Everyone did awesome with their pumpkins. We'll be carving any day now.
October 28, 2008 at 5:41 AM

October 28, 2008 at 6:19 AM
We haven't even gotten any pumpkins yet! We did have a few grow in the backyard (volunteer plants, not intentionally planted), but those pumpkins are rotten now (and thank goodness our gnat breeding ground is waaaay out in the backyard. Your pumpkins look great!
October 28, 2008 at 6:31 AM
Great pumpkins...Always so much fun...where is your pumpkin? Stuck in therapy?
October 28, 2008 at 6:31 AM
Awww, those are great!! We have yet to do our pumpkin and I feel so slack!! Our weather here has been so HOT! I'm talking 80 degree or higher days so they will shrivil up if we do them too soon. Tonight might be a good night so we'll see. Your kids did a FANTASTIC job! Love their ideas. Thanks for sharing.
October 28, 2008 at 7:03 AM

October 28, 2008 at 7:13 AM

October 28, 2008 at 7:15 AM

October 28, 2008 at 8:21 AM
Great pics! I, to this day, have never carved a pumpkin. I really need to get on that. :)
October 28, 2008 at 8:26 AM
Wow, those pumpkins are AWESOME! I still have to go get some. Great idea to carve them outside though. I'm going to copy you on that one, it's supposed to be nice out this week.
October 28, 2008 at 8:52 AM
They all look great! Really like seeing them all lit up...
We didn't carve any this year... I took the lazy route and had the girls just paint theirs!
Hope the rain holds off... or maybe comes early and has stopped long before trick-or-treat time!
And my hubby is banned from doing my laundry, too...
October 28, 2008 at 8:54 AM
I'm wanting some seeds too for roasting, but didn't buy a pumpkin!
Your pumpkins are awesome.
Hubby would have done the same thing and washed it all together.
October 28, 2008 at 9:01 AM
Great pumpkins. Can you believe I still haven't been to the pumpkin patch this season. Instead I've had to carve a couple of fake ones. This weekend. Then I'll learn how to toast the seeds too.
October 28, 2008 at 9:11 AM
Wow, pretty spooktacular!
October 28, 2008 at 9:19 AM
awesome pumpkin carvings!!
October 28, 2008 at 9:19 AM
i'm thinking your hubby & mine would get along just fine considering he washes showboat's laundry and his w/o ever getting the grass, sunflower seeds, and whatever else off of them BEFORE putting them in there. i'm sick of digging out twigs and shells from washer/dryer.
we went up to railtown to ride the steam train & the kids got free pumpkins to either paint there or take home to paint or carve. they chose to paint there...oh, yeah! no carving! no mess! woohoo! LOL
p.s. your kids (and hubby, too) did a great job on the pumpkins :)
October 28, 2008 at 9:27 AM
Tuck picked the pirate too! Although Molly will correct you and tell you that "it's the Jolly Roger!" I wanted to do the spider bu the pumpkin was too small. Instead Munch got the howling wolves carved by your truly and Daddy is doing Mo's cat tonite! I won't tell you that I got my seeds and stewed guts for pie and gobs. That would just be cruel ::crunch, crunch::
October 28, 2008 at 9:50 AM
love the pumpkin carvings!!
October 28, 2008 at 10:02 AM
Love em all, they did a great job on them!! We do carvings sometimes, but not every year.
None this year I dont think, unless hubbys brings one home this week??
October 28, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Those are fantastic!!!!
October 28, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Those are awesome pumpkins! I'm actually getting ready to upload my pics from Sunday for my Tackle It post!
October 28, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Consider yourself lucky. At least you have a front porch to display your beautiful pumkins. If I left pumkins in front of our apartment door in Paris they would probably get stolen!

I love me some pumpkin seeds. And I love all the carvings! I also loved seeing K in the same pants that N has. :) Happy Halloween!
October 28, 2008 at 11:06 AM
my hubby refuses to listen too. Just last night he added water to the simple spaghetti sauce and I thought it tasted a little watery. When I mentioned "did you add water to keep it from sticking?" "NO I added a little water to empty the jar completely." HMMM using this thinking should I add water to the gas can to get all the gas out? Come on...just do as I ask - no adapting please. I feel better....this therapy thing just might catch on.
October 28, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Those pumpkins look great! And I agree with Tara--I think your hubby may be onto something:)
October 28, 2008 at 12:09 PM

October 28, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Cool pumpkins - my favorite is the child eating pumpkin. We'll probably carve the the night before - I like pumpkins before/after...it's the in-between stuff I don't care for.
