Do you need to know it all,

...have it all,

...belong to it all,

to just be?

Well, not all of it. But most of it. And for more than the 2 recommended hours a day.

    Hi Jen,

Oh, I relate. I've consciously avoided all the social networking because its just more screen time for me and so addictive. HOWEVER, I see my traffic stalling. Just can't win! I still opt "just be" Have a great Valentines weekend.

I've been waging this war in my brain for the past two weeks. There has to be a line but I guess that depends on what you ultimately want to accomplish. And even then you have to make a balance.

No wonder I get nothing accomplished during the day!

    That was great!

Not all or nothing for me. I select from the smorgasboard. I am not commited to each selection everyday. I can push any one selection lower on the priorty list of the moment. Call me flexible. And decisive. Barbara

I prefer to just be. I used to stretch myself VERY thin on the web with parenting boards, Christian sites, blogs (and yes, plural) you name it, I did it. Now I stick to my blogs (one for me, one for the kid) Facebook and Twitter. Oh, and a parenting site. But see, I cut down. Really, I did!!

  16. Jill said...

I certainly don't ... in fact, I feel like half of these are in a foreign language!

No, I certainly don't think so. I don't know how you can live and do all of that!

    And how about, "WHY?"

I have thought and re-thought about all these things. I usually ask myself, WHY am i doing this? and, more importantly, If I do this, what will I have to give up to do it?

That's why I've stayed away from twitter and facebook. They are fine for some peeps but not for this chick.

  22. Dennis and Leslie said...

Just about a month ago, I thought I needed to be a part of all of those things, but it quickly became a chore. So now I blog for myself, and if I have time to comment or interact with others I do, as long as it isn't interfering with my relationships with the people that are most important to me ;)

I have always wondered how some bloggers keep up with everything. I can't and I am not going to lose sleep over it.

  24. Amy Amy Bo Bamey said...

Yeah, that is why I am not that great. I can't do a quarter of that! I don't even try too! It is all just too much! I am a twitter failure. I signed up and then always forget about it.

  25. Julia@SometimesLucid said...

I am over whelmed by it all too. I have 3 email addresess, facebook and my blog. If I twittered I'd go insane!

I can hardly blog, scream at the kids, drink a homemade Mocha, paint my nails, talk on the phone & pluck that one damn gray hair all at the same time without loosing it. If I added one more thing I'd have to pluck 2 gray hairs out tomorrow & that's just not worth it to me. Hugs

Yeah, and then here I come to say that you've been tagged over at my site... sure you're going YEA! huh? Probably not. I've had those days lately too, Lady.

Happy VD (that's Valentine's Day for those less twisted than myself)

I totally identify. It feels like, so often, your blog will go nowhere if you don't network, network, network. But then you spend so much time networking, putting yourself and your stuff out there, and who sees it? Who actually becomes a fan because of it? Are we just generating traffic, or are we generating READERS. Who the heck knows!

    Great post!

OMG I so hear you on this one, Jen. It is totally too much sometimes. I feel like my head is going to explode. WTH did people do 10 or 15 years ago?

I go in waves...everything at once...then slowly start weeding...then adding in a ton more...then slowly weeding out...I'm like ebb and flow of the ocean...

So much to do...so little time! I get behind, then just when I think I've gotten caught up, I get overwhelmed again. 1 step forward, 2 steps back....but at least I'm having fun! ;)

  35. John Deere Mom said...

GREAT post! Luckily I don't get overly involved with most of them. I did Myspace. Done with it. Don't have an interest in Facebook. I am twitterless. Life is good. :)

  36. SweetPeaSurry said...

Very ... hmmm ... to the point. Of that list ... I do much more than half of them. It should be disconcerting, but it's not. I think you missed one though. "Chat" ... maybe two ... "Messenger" ... I don't know. Now I'm just confused.

  37. Musings of a Housewife said...

You know, I think it's TOTALLY up to each individual. I love and adore Twitter. I could delete my Facebook account tomorrow and never miss it. And all the other stuff? Fluff. The blog is the bread and buttah! :-) I think I am going to try to get a lot of the businessy stuff off my blog and shuffle it over to my review blog so I feel like the blog is more personal again.

You are with me with the birthday so close to Valentine's Day! The first year my husband and I had only been dating about 6 weeks but were fairly serious. He was completely stumped. He bought me roses for my birthday and took me out for Valentine's Day. I have received many combo gifts in years past but can't be nearly as bad as having your birthday close to Christmas.

I'm a know-it-all who doesn't do-it-all. And maybe you can tell me this...why would people I don't know want to follow me on Twitter?? It's kinda creepy to me.

  43. Anissa Mayhew said...

    This was great....IS great.

Could be some strange blogger mantra.

  44. Whiney Momma said...

Hello no. I think trying to keep up with all of that can make a gal go crazy!

  45. ModernMommy said...

It is so overwhelming sometimes. No?

  46. Anonymous said...

It's exhausting! I think that's why I've kinda checked out from Twitter and haven't been such a good Entrecard dropper lately. Yes, I love all the wonderful people who actually do read my blog (and some actually comment!) but when it got to the point where I was stressing about whether or not my latest blog post was "good enough" or "why did so and so stop following me on Twitter?" I knew I needed to step back from it all. It's not supposed to be this hard.

  47. flickrlovr said...

I so know the feeling. I've been wondering this lately myself. It feels like there are SO many things to keep up with...you don't want to be left out of anything, miss anything, be behind the curve on anything...so you try try try to stay ahead and on top of all the newest, latest trends and sites and AHHHHH! It's all a bit much sometimes.

  48. Eyeglasses & Endzones said...

Dude...this one HURTS!!! Seriously true...SLOW DOWN EVERYONE...the computer will still be there in the morning (as I update my status, leave some comments, and create a new post)!

  49. Sue Wilkey said...

Boy, that said it all. Twitter, Facebook, a 2nd blog and networking have totally sucked up my commenting time- which I feel horribly guilty about, but that leaves almost nothing for my kids!
