K-lish, Lesson 8, The F Words
So it's not exactly what you think. My youngest isn't throwing around the F-bombs that you're imagining.
Yet.
But, my little girl that is now destined for speech therapy like her big brother, is flaunting her discrepancy left and right.
Right now she's replacing some S-words with the F sound.
She calls the movie, The Incredibles, the 'fuper hewo moobee', we say "K say sssssss-uper." And, she says, "ssssss-fuper!"
Alas, it sounds cute, but we do try and correct her as needed.
Fider-spider
Feshul-special
Fuhpwhyz!-surprise
Foe-so
Farkalee-sparkly
Foo mah wo-tomorrow-random f for t swap
Just some more general cute things...
Just GO!-do it,(anything)NOW-whatever she commands from us at any given point she follows up with a Just GO! and that means business!
Mommy Say Yes-I'm allowed-if she's doing something not allowed she follows up a "(insert parent or sibling that ISN'T around) say yes" and it's supposed to cover her butt so she doesn't get in trouble. Mostly occurs with Brother and his Pokemon cards.
You MEAN-you are mean-typical, age-appropriate saying. Repeated multiple times a day when her desired request goes unfulfilled.
All Better Medicine-Gatorade-we menitioned this ONCE when she had the pukes, and now whenever, wherever she sees it she calls it that.
Vehnebbuh dat?-remember-when she sees or recalls something, she has an amazing memory!
Why You No Hear Me?-HELLO, anyone listening?!-sometimes parents (gasp) ignore their children when they are having a tantrum. Or when they repeat a phrase 15 times when you're ignoring their pleas for more chocolate. Like we really can't hear her, she's loud.
And, if you're new here, you can catch up on your K-lish.

oo how I love little kids learning to say words! My son just likes to leave the first letter off of the word... so for example there is snow on the ground here. He came running to the back door no no no no!!! Meaning snow snow snow snow :-P

So stinkin' adorable!! Why would you want to correct that cuteness??? At least not yet... ;)
March 2, 2009 at 9:23 AM
I just love to hear kids talk like that. It bugs me when Hubs correct Peanut. She'll figure it out, eventually! Just this morning she was telling me that she needs a new "tatoone" because the old one rubbed off (tattoo). My GF has a 3 YO that when he doesn't get what he wants, she's a "baaaad mommy!" We can NEVER keep a straight face when he starts in on her. It's terrible...

We had one in this house that did the switch with "L" everything was La- This and La- that. There are days I miss it! Damn Speech therapists!

I seriously have to find that old recipe book of my wife's that uses F's instead of S… think I'll have some chicken foop for lunch today.
March 2, 2009 at 10:46 AM
I love that...well, when kids pronounce things kinda funky.
though it does need to be taken care of....i know that it can hold her back in spelling when they try to sound out words.
Very cute though.

Those are funny. I like the "Mommy Say Yes" ....what a stinker.
But such a cute stinker!
March 2, 2009 at 11:29 AM
I may need to start using 'why you no hear me?' I love that!
March 2, 2009 at 11:46 AM
Gotta love the F/S switch. My favorite was when my son was in that phase and called Daddy "smarty pants". (yeah, at the dinner table with the grandparents!)
March 2, 2009 at 11:56 AM
My little son is into the whole..."can you hear me thing now..." He says it about ten times a day...including to the puppies next door...LOL!
March 2, 2009 at 11:58 AM
My 2 and a half year old has some sort of speech thing going on too, but I think he does it on purpose. Pizza will be poo-tzah, but just for a day... then his lovey will go from Puppa to Poopah, again for a day. I can't decide if I should be concerned, annoyed, or amused.

Ah the joy of K talking. I love it! We know Noelle will eventually figure out how to pronounce an R, but for now, we're really enjoying the W's.

Kid-speak is the best! One of my favorite places in the school is the speech therapy rooms. They have so much fun!
March 2, 2009 at 6:30 PM

March 2, 2009 at 6:39 PM
So cute! This is such a good way to keep a record of the cute little things she says...
March 2, 2009 at 7:28 PM
It is so wonderful that you documented all of those precious words and sayings! One day they will melt your heart!
I remember my little cousin shouted out at a holiday gathering
"Everybody fit in a fircle and fing a fong!"
We love reminding her of it whenever we see her ")
March 2, 2009 at 7:43 PM

My niece used to do the same thing. Her uncle thought it was funny to have her tell her mom that she's a smart girl. Which, of course, came out as fart girl. Her mother was not as amused as her uncle was.
March 2, 2009 at 10:28 PM
Heh. Yep, I used to love those words. My 6 yo stepdaughter still hasn't gotten out of it though even with years of speech therapy. It's holding her back and now she's so self-conscious of it that she refuses to repeat the word when we try to get her to say it correctly.
Wow, I'm sure a party pooper aren't I? Sorry. ;o)
March 3, 2009 at 2:54 AM
My baby daughter (now 19) used to say, "Just Go"! That was our favorite saying for sure. Glad you're having fun with it.
March 3, 2009 at 4:42 AM
So cute! My oldest spoke just like that! lol Now she's real good at the real F-bombs...she's 21 not and lives in Los Angeles...I'm not there to slap her...lol
March 4, 2009 at 8:02 AM
OMGosh...I was laughing histerically a ssss-fuper...that is so adorable!! I love it! I am also reading up on my K-lish for the test!!! =)
March 4, 2009 at 6:35 PM
Oh, how cute and sweet....but I know what you mean about the speech.
Apparently, hubby had a hard time, and his mom said it was cute. The speech teacher quickly told her "it's not going to be cute when he's 20!" Let's just say I'm glad she did that!
March 6, 2009 at 8:46 AM
Gonna have to explain this one a lot in grocery stores, and to grandparents, when she hits on the word TRUCK and forgets the R...
