Slight Obsession

We saw Julie & Julia at the theater, Hubby and I. Normally a chick-flick, he endured it and didn't complain. I enjoyed because I remember the days when my grandma baby sat me and we'd be watching Julia Child on PBS. My grandmother used to have a less than nice name for her and her unique way of speaking, lets just say it was something to do with chewing the shit, in Spanish.

Nevertheless, watching Julia Child was fascinating, something that started me on enjoying cooking shows way back. Julie Powell, the author of Julie and Julia, started writing a blog about her adventure, and well..I write a blog, so needless to say, I enjoyed the movie.

Like some backwards styles, I read the book after I saw the movie, further interested in this government worker-turned cook-turned blogger-turned writer. I loved it. Her writing style, the further in depth the story went, her story.

Then keeping with my theme, I read Julia Child's book, My Life in France. Even trying to dissect the French words with the Spanish that I know didn't dissuade me from getting through the book, though it did take me far longer to finish it. I loved how Paul was so utterly in love with Julia and supported her so strongly in her endeavors.

Now, I'm onto Julie Powell's second book, Cleaving, and find myself intrigued at the grocery store's meat section.

Obviously, when I get into something, I tend to obsess in it. I've now found the original blog that started the Julie/Julia Project and now I'm reading through it and admiring the writing, the story, and the whole idea all over again. And, now I'm stalking following JP on Facebook. Call me wacky!

No, I won't be cooking my way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking, we are just not that extravagant of eaters in this household. I mean, I've resorted to wrapping everything we eat now in bacon so the kids don't go malnourished.

Now maybe if there was a Mastering the Art of Chocolate Chip Cookies, I'd give it a go.

Oh wait, last night on my GNO we went to see "It's Complicated" with Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep....see I just can't shake this, now I'll have to buy Julie and Julia on DVD AND Mama Mia! See how my fixation just slowly moves from movie-to book-to actress...

What is wrong with me?! I need a 12-step program to get out of this cycle.

Julie and Julia was amazing, but the cooking bug only lasts momentarily at my house. Then its back to prepackaged lasagna.

It's Complicated was leaps and bounds better, though. How do you NOT love Alec Baldwin? Not a lot of good one-liners, but still so funny.

After all that, I'm going to have to get J&J on PPV tonight!

Tara thinks we should find a cookbook to cook our way through. Interesting idea -from a kids perspective maybe! Tara's would have to be 365 ways to eat pasta.

I loved that movie, I was surprised how much. I too watched Julia growing up. I will have to check out the book, but first I need to read the book that is due for book club in 6 freakin' days. Procrastinate much?

Tara wants to see It's Complicated - i don't remember what it is rated.

I loved Julie & Julia. It had a great story, blogging, female empowerment and lots of butter! A perfect little movie. I must check out the book, I bet I would like it...

mmm...butter and wine, doesn't get much better.

We watched it on Netflix last week as a date night and split a huge plate of yummy cheese and a bottle of wine -- in my opinion a must while watching good movies with food... Just like I always want italian pasta while I watch the Sopranos!

Also read the book and devoured it long before the movie, need to go back now and read her blog posts -- all of us bloggy girls can dream right?! : )

And Meryl Streep is WONDERFUL, no shame in that one. You should check out her "reading" of the scholastic book "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes -- she's fantastic. : )

(Jen, I don't know how this comment will turn out. We're out of town and I'm using my husbands lap top. It's me, Ann ;-> )

I just read "My Life In France". Isn't it wonderful?!! Her interest and excitement of French cooking and the respect and love expressed about her husband (and visa-versa). Such a good book!

I can't wait to see "It's Complicated". I do believe it will be a quiet afternoon rental for me. I can't wait.

We got Julie and Julia on PPv last weekend and the hubby liked it more than me even. And I loved it

But I am not reading any French ass cooking books. I would lose my hillbilly card.

We saw Its complicated on sunday--so cute.

I guess I am lucky that my hubby likes these movies as much as I do. I need to ponder this
