To Be a Kid Again....

If it were always as easy as bubbles and swinging on a swing.

Have you ever just sat on a swing and felt the wind whoosh back and forth through your hair? The rhythmic back-and-forth of the fresh air making you feel so alive. The repetition that kids love, they can be on the swing for hours and not have another care in the world.

I thought about this as I pushed K on the swing for about 30 minutes today.

Back and forth, even with Hubby mowing the lawn around us. The occasional obstacle just initiating a series of sweet giggles from a 2 year, eight month old.

It's the little things.

Last night while I cleaned and purged the living room toy buckets, I found a bottle of bubbles.

Of course, I opened them and started my human bubble machine. More giggles and laughter. K bounced about the room popping them and letting them pop on her chubby cheeks.

Times like this that you just want to bottle up their preciousness. Their innocence. Their pure unconditional love for the littlest things in life.

I love these days.

If you don't pay close attention, they're gone in a blink of an eye.

I love bubbles. My kids are too big to play with them now, but the cat will join the fun with me. ;)

oh yes slow down and enjoy, in a blink they are all grown up. I am working really hard at slowing down and enjoying those moments my mind always wanders to what I should be doing.

Very true. Time goes by so quickly with little ones. I still can't believe that I have an opinionated little five year old over here. What happened to the baby I use to know?

    Thank God for cameras, lol.

I have to agree that being a child is priceless. Enjoying their childhood is one of the best things we can offer to our children

It is truly amazing how quickly the time passes you by...

I sometimes have to remind myself to take more time to smell the roses with them - because I know it's just a matter of time before they no longer want to spend all their free time with me.

Very true! The little things are so important, yet often overlooked.

You always hear people talk about how fast they grow up and then you have your own and you realize it really does pass by so fast! It seems like the years just fly by (most of the time! :)

We love bubbles around here too! I've been trying to slow down and appreciate things too, I don't know where the first 6 months went with my daughter but she's not a newborn anymore!

Perfect timing. My daughter and I are stuck at home all day today. I'm sure we've got bubbles around here somewhere...

Whatever you do, don't blink. My 1st baby is now sharing my jeans, in high school and had a date to a dance with a boy.
I still am wondering when it all happened.
If I blink again I am afraid I'll be a grandma before I know it.

What sweet sugary mama sap - love it! And oh so true!

I must admit - sometimes swinging on a swing anymore makes me motion sick.....I'm old, huh?

Wow, your post mad eme teary eyed. Darn hormones! LOL! You're exactly right though, everyone needs to slow down a bit. Everything else will be there, but life is beautiful and it can be taken from you in the blink of an eye!

I think I'll pull out the bubbles today :o)

    Thanks!

I'm totally with you on this. The kiddos grow up way too fast. Swings and bubbles turn into driving and cell phones. Uggh.

Thanks for this post Jen! So often the boys ask to go to the park and I'm always saying no, not today. I need to change that.

And where did swing sets go, by the way? You don't see many around and in private yards as much as you used to. My son Andy (now 23) used to sit facing me and would fall asleep while we swang on the swing set. Thanks for reminding me of this special time!

I had to share - this post stuck with me and tonight when I was getting the Boy Wonder into his jammies, I spied a bottle of bubbles on the closet shelf. We spent the last 15 minutes before bed tonight chasing them around his room :)

That's why I love being home with my boys, I really do feel like I get to be a kid again, most days.

Except when I have to yell at them...

I swang yesterday myself for the first time in a while and it felt so good. My son thought it was SO funny that I could got that high and fast!

Thanks for the reminders to cherish these times...

So sweet. Thanks for the reminder. This goes for all of us...it's so much easier to see the little stuff when you're little yourself, but when you get older, it's tougher to slow down and sniff the darned roses sometimes! Thank you for that mental picture of happy little K and the reminder to slow down and really SEE things :)
