He's Got the Look

This picture.

It was from Christmas day.

Originally it was of 18 of us, hubby's side of the family, plus my parents.

It was crazy and we took about 10 pictures hoping everyone was looking at the camera at the same time.

But, I cropped it so it was just of us.

It's sweet.

I can make up a bunch of things hubby could be thinking, like, "whoa honey...chins OUT."

Or..."that wasn't me! One of the nephews has a dirty diaper!"

In my fantasy world, I like to think he's saying, "you are so beautiful, Merry Christmas!"

Whatever was going on in his head, I like this shot.

Today, January 8th marks our 18th anniversary.

Not of our wedding, but of the day my then-suitor asked me to be his "girlfriend."

HALF OUR LIVES.

Strangest concept ever.

So tomorrow, technically we'll will be a couple LONGER than we haven't been.

I remember being in his dorm room when he asked me, sitting on his bed.

Or were we in my room and I was sitting on the floor?

Okay, the details are a tad fuzzy.

Give me a break, it was half my life ago!

I do remember he did NOT like my roommate.

She was super into Enya.

And 10,000 Maniacs.

She drove him completely bonkers.

Once, he stole borrowed my roommate's brand new bike without permission and rode it 10 miles in the rain for kicks.

Uh yeah.

We had to literally scrub it with a toothbrush for hours to get all the mud off so she wouldn't find out.

And when he took her Tremors poster and put it in the stairwell that was dubbed "the office" where all the smokers hung out. She asked about that thing daily for months.

AnyHOO.

...after Christmas Hubby pulled out this shoebox he had stored in the garage.

It was tied together with a shoe string.

It had all the letters I'd written him from when we first started dating until we moved in together.

Complete cheese-ball stuff, but sweet in it's own way.

I wrote of the night this picture was shot....the dorm dance....and how "I've Got Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks was my new favorite song.

I know...I'm kinda throwing up in my mouth a little.

How ever it all started, it's still going strong eighteen years later.

Even if someone gained some weight...and someone lost some hair...

I'm confident that in that photo hubby is looking at me and thinking, "I still love you after all this time."

I love the pictures. It is great to see relationships work. Chris and I have been together 15 and a half years now and married 9 and a half years. I am 32 so this is almost half of my life. It is weird huh?

it's amazing what can happen in 18 years, and it's equally amazing how quickly it goes by. We just celebrated our 15th and I freaked quite a bit.

Enjoy it, give him a squeeze, and know how lucky you are.
