The Eyes Have It (and the Teeth Do Too!)
Last week, DQ got fitted for contact lenses.It was her dream come true.
She's complained about her glasses since day one, and I don't blame her, she's at that age where looks are everything.
Hopefully now, dodge ball won't be as embarassing.
She was beaming all week.
Yesterday, she had more hardware removed.
Braces off after nearly FOUR (I miscalculated and added a year previously) years, my tween can see her teeth!
Oh the gorgeous-ness.
Where did my baby girl go?
Eyes, Eyes, Eyes, Yeaahh
So My Boy goes to the eye dr. yesterday.Per his pediatrician's referral. He flunked his 8 year checkup eye test.
What irks me is that he took a school exam and I received nothing from them.
DQ took the school exam, failed it and is now in glasses, did the examiner fall asleep during My Boy's exam?
His Rx is stronger than big sister's.
His teacher didn't mention anything.
He didn't tell us he couldn't see.
Hmm.
That field vision test where you click the button when you see a light flash....well there was a period of time (like 2 minutes) where there was no clicking done.
Was it because his eyes were dilated?! Re-test next week.
Hopefully we'll get everything taken care of and the strikeouts in baseball will cease.
For the record, he did smack a homerun in Monday's practice game. Maybe he was squinting.
It's a bit unnerving sitting in the room when your child looks up at the list of letters and says, "I don't see any of them, they're all blurry!"
And it's the BIG LETTERS.
So we're going to lay off the Nintendo DS for a while.
We tease him about getting "googly eyes" for staring at that thing for so long, but now i'm wondering if has a negative effect.
It was Spring Break, he wasn't too happy.
But he ddi think those dilation glasses were cool.

I was in high school when I first realized I couldn't see the board clearly. It was US History and P.L. sat next to me.He had glasses. Everytime there was board work, i'd sit and stare at him until he was done writing. Then i'd ask him if I could wear his glasses to see the board.
Hubby was in 9th grade. He wondered why he wasn't able to make many shots on his basketball team.
For the past few months, DQ has been squinting at the t.v.
Everytime I call her on it, she says, "I can see, I was just [enter excuse of the moment here]."
Tonight we were watching
I gave hubby my glasses and he walked over to DQ and told her to put them on.
"Everything looks closer!" she said. We both heaved a big sigh.
I cringed a little thinking of the optometry bill. We pay so much damn money for health insurance, but dental, orthodontia, and optometry aren't included.
Aces.

I pray that having both braces AND glasses in 5th grade is far less detrimental than in high school, like me.
